A knee joint prosthesis is capable of moving between an extended position and a flexion position. The knee joint prosthesis includes a femoral component that is configured to be mounted to a femur, and a tibial component that is configured to be mounted to a tibia. The femoral component and the tibial component are at least partially connected together by a geared arrangement.

Cruciate replacing artificial knee

A knee joint prosthesis is configured to move between an extended position and a flexion position. The knee joint prosthesis includes a femoral component configured to be mounted to a femur, and a tibial component configured to be mounted to a tibia. The tibial component is configured to engage the femoral component to form the knee joint prosthesis. A post is fixedly connected to one of the femoral component and the tibial component, and a cam recess is defined on the other of the femoral component and the tibial component. The cam recess is configured to engage the post in either the extended position or the flexion position of the knee joint prosthesis. An artificial ligament is fixedly connected to the femoral component and the tibial component to simulate either an anterior cruciate ligament or a posterior cruciate ligament.

A knee joint prosthesis is configured to move between an extended position and a flexion position. The knee joint prosthesis includes a femoral component configured to be mounted to a femur, and a tibial component configured to be mounted to a tibia. The tibial component is configured to engage the femoral component to form the knee joint prosthesis. A post is fixedly connected to one of the femoral component and the tibial component and has a helical surface at a terminal end thereof. A recess is defined on the other of the femoral component and the tibial component and has a helical surface. The helical surfaces of the post and recess are configured to engage in order to cause relative rotation between the femoral and tibial components as the knee joint prosthesis moves between the extended and flexion positions.

A modular knee joint prosthesis is configured to move between an extended position and a flexion position. The modular knee joint prosthesis includes a femoral component that is configured to be mounted to a femur. The femoral component has a first cutout or opening in a central region thereof for receiving a femoral insert. The modular knee joint prosthesis also includes a tibial component that is configured to (i) be mounted either directly or indirectly to a tibia, and (ii) engage the femoral component. The tibial component has a second cutout or opening in a central region thereof for receiving a tibial insert. A kit includes the modular knee joint prosthesis, at least two of the femoral inserts having different geometries, and at least two of the tibial inserts having different geometries.

Modular artificial knee system

Knee prostheses that more faithfully replicate the structure and function of the human knee joint in order to provide, among other benefits: greater flexion of the knee in a more natural way by promoting or accommodating internal tibial rotation, replication of the natural screw home mechanism, and controlled articulation of the tibia and femur respective to each other in a natural way. Such prostheses may include an insert component disposed between a femoral component and a tibial component, the insert component featuring, among other things, a reversely contoured posterolateral bearing surface that helps impart internal rotation to the tibia as the knee flexes. Other surfaces can be shaped using iterative automated techniques that allow testing and iterative design taking into account a manageable set of major forces acting on the knee during normal functioning, together with information that is known about natural knee joint kinetics and kinematics.

High performance knee prostheses

A knee joint prosthesis is capable of moving between an extended position and a flexion position. The knee joint prosthesis includes a femoral component that is configured to be mounted to a femur, a tibial component that is configured to be mounted to a tibia, a post fixedly connected to one of the femoral component and the tibial component, and a cam recess defined on the other of the femoral component and the tibial component that is configured to be engaged by the post in either the extended position or the flexion position of the knee joint prosthesis. The knee joint prosthesis may also include an artificial ligament that extends between the femoral component and the tibial component. The post and the ligament mimic one of the ACL and PCL.

A prosthetic knee with an artificial ACL/PCL. The prosthetic knee includes a femoral component and a tibial component. The artificial ACL/PCL connects the femoral component and the tibial component and includes an anterior cruciate ligament portion connecting an anterior anchor point on the tibial component to a posterior anchor point on the femoral component, and a posterior cruciate ligament portion connecting a posterior anchor point on the tibial component to an anterior anchor point on the femoral component. The artificial ligament may be provided as single length of material and may be pre-assembled into an ACL/PCL module having portions that may be inserted into at least one of the femoral component or the tibial component. A system is also provided for total knee replacement that includes a selection of femoral components, tibial components, and one or more ACL/PCL modules of varying sizes.

An instrument and method of using the instrument for setting a fracture in a bone and applying a bone plate to the fractured bone. The instrument includes a connector for connecting the instrument to the intramedullary rod. At least two tines are movably connected to the connector and configured to orient the fractured bone with respect to the rod. Each tine has a distal end configured to contact the bone. At least one plate carrier is configured to receive the bone plate. The at least one plate carrier is movably connected to the connector and configured to move relative to the connector and the tines to position the bone plate adjacent the bone in a predetermined alignment with the intramedullary rod.

Instrument for fracture alignment and plate compression

A plating system for mending a periprosthetic fracture is provided. The system includes an intramedullary rod, a first and second plate, and a plurality of fasteners. The intramedullary rod has a plurality of transverse holes. The first and second locking plates each have a plurality of openings and is configured to have a contour similar to a surface of a bone to which the plate is applied. Also provided is method of mending fractures by using the disclosed system. In the implanted condition, the first and second locking plates are placed across the periprosthetic fracture and each of the plurality of fasteners is inserted through one opening of the first and second plurality of openings and one transverse hole.
