An electromagnet assembly has an inner magnet, an outer magnet, arranged around the inner magnet with an annular region extending between the inner magnet and the outer magnet, and a number of support elements extending through the annular region and dividing the annular region into a number of annular segments. The support elements are distributed in the annular region so as to form a small annular segment and a large annular segment.

Electromagnet assembly

An electromagnet for a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) apparatus. The electromagnet includes a coil configured to generate a magnetic field. The coil has a first axially outer surface, and a support element configured to mount the coil in the MRI. The support element is bonded to the first axially outer surface of the coil.

Support of superconducting coils for MRI systems

An electromagnet of an electromagnet assembly for a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) apparatus. The electromagnet includes an annular coil that is configured to generate a magnetic field and has a first axially outer surface; a support element that is bonded to the first axially outer surface of the annular coil and is configured to mount the annular coil in the MRI apparatus; and a support structure comprising a pair of axially-directed support plates spaced apart from one another along a radial direction of the annular coil by a distance which is greater than a radial thickness of the annular coil forming a cavity therebetween, wherein the support element is received in the cavity and mechanically fastened to the support plates.

An electromagnet assembly has an outer shield coil assembly having a first end and a second end, and further has a housing having a first end wall and a second end wall spaced apart from one another by a side wall. The outer shield coil assembly and housing are centered on a common assembly axis. A first support pin extends between and couples the first end wall of the housing and the first end of the outer shield coil assembly. A second support pin extends between and couples the second end wall of the housing and the second end of the outer shield coil assembly. Hence the outer shield coil assembly is carried by the housing by the pins. The coupling of the end walls of the housing and ends of the outer shield coil assembly is configured to prevent relative radial and rotational movement between the outer shield coil assembly and the housing.

Electromagnetic assembly

An arrangement for cryogenic cooling includes a cryogen tank, a cryogenic recondensing refrigerator arranged to cool a heat exchanger that is exposed to the interior of the cryogen tank, and an arrangement for conducting heat from a cooled article to the cryogen tank. A further cryogen tank is provided below the heat exchanger and arranged to receive cryogen liquid recondensed on the heat exchanger.

Arrangement for cryogenic cooling

A cylindrical superconducting magnet coil structure has superconducting coils and spacers bonded together at joints to form a self-supporting structure. A layer of additional material is provided, overlaying a joint and extending onto an adjacent regions of a spacer and a coil.

Connection of coils to support structures in superconducting magnets

A superconducting joint and a cooling surface are provided as a combination. The superconducting joint joins superconducting wires each comprising superconducting filaments electrically joined together. The cooling surface comprises a thermally and electrically conductive material. An electrically isolating surface coating is provided on the cooling surface. The superconducting joint, the surface coating and the cooling surface are in thermal contact. The superconducting joint is electrically isolated from the cooling surface by the surface coating. The tails of the superconducting wires are wrapped around the electrically isolating surface coating.

A method of manufacturing a solenoidal magnet structure, comprising the steps of providing a collapsible mold in which to wind coils; winding wire into defined positions () in the mold to form coils (); placing a preformed tubular mechanical support structure () over the coils () so wound; impregnating the coils and bonding them to the mechanical support structure by applying a thermosetting resin and allowing the thermosetting resin to harden; and collapsing the mold and removing the resultant solenoidal magnet structure comprising the resin impregnated coils and the mechanical support structure from the mold as a single solid piece.

Method of manufacturing a solenoidal magnet structure

A method of manufacturing a solenoidal magnet structure, includes the step of providing a collapsible accurate mold in which to wind the coils winding wire into defined positions in the mold, placing a mechanical support structure over the coils so wound, impregnating the coils and the mechanical support structure with a thermosetting resin, allowing the thermosetting resin to harden, and collapsing the mold and removing the resultant solenoidal magnet structure formed by the resin impregnated coils and the mechanical support structure from the mold as a single solid piece.
