A vehicle radar system () having at least one transceiver arrangement () arranged to generate, transmit and receive reflected radar signals. The transceiver arrangement () includes an ADC arrangement () that is arranged to output a digital IF signal () in a time domain to a DSP arrangement (). A first DSP function (a) is arranged to: identify and retain sample points of the digital IF signal () in a spectral domain with signal components that exceed a certain level threshold, such that an approximation signal () is formed in the time domain, identify possible sections () of the digital IF signal () in the time domain that exhibit interference exceeding an interference threshold, determine whether or not to replace such sections () with equivalent sections () of the approximation signal (), and if applicable, replace such sections () with equivalent sections () of the approximation signal ().

Vehicle radar system arranged for reducing interference

A vehicle radar sensor unit () arranged to acquire a plurality of radar detections, and including an antenna arrangement (), a transmitter unit (), a receiver unit () and a processing unit (). The antenna arrangement () has at least two transmitter antennas () and at least two receiver antennas (), where two transmitter antennas () have a vertical spacing (h) between their respective phase centers () that exceeds half the free-space wavelength of the transmitted signal. The processing unit () is arranged to determine a first radial velocity of each radar detection by tracking the change of radial distance (r) to each radar detection for a plurality of radar cycles; determine a second radial velocity that best matches the first radial velocity; track a plurality of measured heights (z) as a function of radial distance (r); and to choose a measured height (z) among the tracked measured heights (z) that has a minimal change from radar cycle to radar cycle.

Enhanced vertical object detection for a vehicle radar system

A vehicle radar system having a signal generator () that generates a FMCW chirp signal () with a plurality of frequency ramps (r) running between a first frequency (f) and a second frequency (f). At the second frequency (f), the signal generator () is controlled to output an output signal () with an output frequency (F) for initializing a further frequency ramp (r') using a frequency control signal () corresponding to a desired frequency () with an initial desired frequency part () and at least one further desired frequency part (). The initial desired frequency part () runs from the second frequency (f) to an intermediate frequency (f) between the first and second frequency (f, f)), and the further desired frequency part () runs from the intermediate frequency (f) to the first frequency (f). The duration of the initial desired frequency part () falls below the duration of the further desired frequency part ().

FMCW vehicle radar system

A system and method for mitigating interference in a frequency-modulated continuous-wave radar processing system is defined. Random inter-pulse jitter is implemented in a transmitted radar signal to prevent identification of false tracks due to interfering radar signals. Random intra-pulse jitter of time and/or frequency is implanted to create spreading of false targets and provide a method to distinguish false targets from true targets. Adjacent sensors in a multi-sensor radar system are alternatingly configured to transmit either upward ramping or downward ramping frequencies to mitigate interference between adjacent sensors in the same radar system.

Apparatus and method for mitigating interference in an automotive radar system

A self-testing method of a frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) radar device. A transmission signal having an object detection signal and a self-test signal superimposed on the object detection signal is transmitted. The self-test signal represents at least one virtual target. A reception signal is received. The reception signal is a received version of the transmission signal. Presence of the at least one virtual target in the reception signal is determined. A lack of presence of the virtual target in the reception signal provides an indication of hardware failure of the FMCW radar device.
