Broadly speaking, embodiments of the present techniques provide apparatus and methods for providing haptic feedback, and in particular to user-operated buttons for electrical and electronic products that provide haptic feedback to the user when operated.

Haptic button

An apparatus is disclosed for measuring the resistance of a shape memory alloy, SMA, wire. The apparatus comprises: an SMA wire; a sense resistor connected in series with the SMA wire; a measurement circuit configured to perform a measurement indicative of the potential difference across at least the SMA wire; and a measurement switch between the SMA wire and the sense resistor. The measurement switch is configured to connect either to the measurement circuit such that the measurement circuit can perform the measurement or to a circuit that bypasses the sense resistor.

Continuous inkjet printers

The present invention relates to an inkjet ink including a photo-chromic colorant and a UV absorber. The ink may be used as a time-temperature indicator and is particularly useful in packaging food and/or drink to provide an indication of the quality of the contents.

Ink composition

Method and Apparatus for Reducing Ink Foaming in a Continuous Inkjet Printer The invention provides a method of and apparatus for reducing foam formation in the returned ink in a continuous inkjet printer. The returned ink is subjected to deceleration and is reduced in pressure, preferably by being directed into a sub-chamber which reverses the direction of flow and provides an elevated edge over which the ink overflows. The de-aeration facility is preferably incorporated in an ink service module.

Inkjet printers

The invention provides a method of controlling the pressure applied to a substrate being printed by a thermal transfer printing head. The head displacement facility includes a resilient member such as a spring which undergoes deflection as the print head engages the substrate. The method comprises monitoring both print head position and spring deflection to control the pressure applied by the print head.

Printing apparatus

The invention describes a method of and means for reducing solvent consumption in a continuous inkjet printer that comprises cooling the ink within the printer system. Ink from the ink reservoir is preferably circulated through a heat exchanger.

The present invention provides a droplet generator () of the velocity modulation type, the generator () being configured so that substantially all the modulation energy generated by piezo-electric crystals () is transformed into vibration of the nozzle (). The generator preferably also includes an internal closure mechanism () which blocks off the nozzle () when the generator is not in operation, but which is de-coupled from the modulation process when the generator is operating.
