Methods and systems for a virtual experience where a user holds or wears a computer device that displays a virtual world, and a simulation system reads user location information from a sensor in the computer device, and feeds that into a set of movement rules. Invalid user motions are handled smoothly, and valid user motions control a virtual avatar through the virtual world in a way that beyond simply an exact, one-to-one mapping of each user motion to each avatar motion. The system may also change the user's viewpoint in the virtual world, as shown on the computer device, or how the virtual world is correlated with the real world.

Handling invalid user control motions in augmented reality

Methods and systems for a virtual experience where a user holds or wears a computer device that displays a virtual world, and the user's physical movement is used to control a virtual avatar through that virtual world in a heightened way. For example, by simply walking around, the user may control a fast moving virtual airplane. A simulation system reads user location information from a sensor in the computer device, and feeds that into a matrix of movement rules. That changes the location data of the user avatar and viewpoint in the virtual world, as shown on the computer device.

Real world walking to control superhuman virtual world movement

Methods and systems for a virtual simulation experience where a user holds or wears a computer device that displays a virtual world, and the user's physical movement is used to control movement of a virtual avatar through that virtual world. A virtual world coordinate system, including the ground planes, is matched to the real world, allowing the virtual world to be shown on the device screen as overlaid onto the real world view. If the user's height in the virtual world changes, the simulation system takes visual samples of the real world to create a 'virtual landscape' at the correct new perspective, overlaying part of the real world landscape. Enhancements include handling real world landscapes that are not flat and level, and creating perspective views of the real world sky.

Navigating real and virtual worlds with disparate terrains in augmented reality

Methods and systems for a virtual experience where a user moves physically to move his or her 'agent', a position in the virtual space that determines which virtual content the user may interact with. If the virtual space contains obstacles, and the user moves such that the agent would intersect with one, either (a) move the correlation vector between the virtual space and real space to counteract the user's physical movement, preventing the user from penetrating the obstacle, or (b) allow the user to proceed, but become separated from his or her agent. Also described are applying these methods if the real space is too small to fit the virtual space, if the agent has a speed limitation that the user violates, how to direct the agent when it is separated from the user, and how to handle three-dimensional obstacles, real-world obstacles, and multiple users.

Enforcing virtual obstacles in a location-based experience

Techniques for creating a virtual space correlated with the geometry of a real space, to enable a user to experience the virtual space by moving virtually in the real space. Multiple users, each in a different real space, can share a single generated virtual space. If the real space is too small to fit the virtual space, the virtual space is laid out hanging over the edge of the real space. When the user reaches this edge, the virtual space is flipped over and re-correlated with the real space, so that by turning around in the real space, the may continue straight ahead in the virtual space. Also described are other ways a large virtual space can be placed and flipped over a smaller real space, recursively, for example to reduce the user's overall walking.

Placing virtual location-based experiences into a real-world space where they don't fit

A location-based user experience is provided that takes place at pinpoint map locations, along paths, or inside regions. Users (players) physically move through a real world location (such as a neighborhood) to these disparate locations to get the experience. The experience is first defined generically, by using a mobile device to physically walk through a map space, for example, by using a computer to click on a map Inputs may also include map metadata, real-time conditions such as weather, and user experiences such as keeping line-of-sight between locations. A graph drawing algorithm may then instantiate the location-based experience along specific map locations and routes near a given starting point. Time-of-travel distances based on routes may be used instead of as-the-crow-flies distances. Placement of locations and routes may also adapt to prefer or avoid certain map coordinates.

System for automatic instantiation of a generically described location-based traveling experience to specific map coordinates and real-time conditions

A server-side telephone system that accepts Web browser calls. The telephone system can act as an intermediary between multiple call participants, even though each is limited to a single peer to peer connection. This allows providing an interface that enables Web browser call participants to put a call on hold, resume a call from hold, receive an inbound call while already on an existing call, and merge calls into a conference session. The telephone system permits calls to be translated outside the original caller's Web browser call domain, such as to an old telephone network landline, cellular network, Voice over IP network, or other call domain. Media exchanged between parties may include Web browser call participant data for interactive sessions. Conversions between media that are necessary to connect call participants with different systems are possible. Call sessions that are put on hold may be connected to an automated system that provides media, for example 'on hold' music.

Handling call waiting, multiple calls, and hold/resume using web real-time communications technology

A system for automatically locating and data-typing information originating from many Web pages, and then collecting that information in a database. The database is then made available via an online data marketplace which allows users from different organizations to buy and sell related data, associated advertisements, and access to the communities of end-users who may also view advertisements and make purchases.
