A voltage regulator comprising a tap selector switch, a switching module and a switching module controller. The tap selector can comprise stationary contacts and movable contacts which can be adjusted for regulating the voltage between a source and a load. The switching module can comprise first and second bypass switches controlled by a bypass actuator and a non-arcing switch, such as a vacuum interrupter, controlled by an interrupter actuator. The switching module controller can be configured to perform a tap change operation through a series of steps that involve actuating a bypass switch and the non-arcing switch. In one example, the switching module controller can wait a predetermined amount of time before proceeding with each step of the tap change operation. In other examples, the switching module controller can receive signals or measurements from the system before proceeding with each step of the tap change operation.

Switching module controller for a voltage regulator

The present disclosure provides techniques for an improved switching module for voltage regulators or transformers with voltage regulating taps. The switching module disclosed herein includes a first bypass switch and a second bypass switch coupled to the first bypass switch, at least one prime mover coupled to and configured to actuate at least one of the first bypass switch and the second bypass switch, and at least one load breaking switch coupled between the first and second bypass switches. In certain example embodiments, a separate prime move is configured to actuate each of the bypass switches and the load breaking switch. In certain other example embodiments, one or more of the bypass switches and the load breaking switch is actuated by a shared prime mover.

A position indicator may include a position indicator display and mechanism. A polymer housing houses the position indicator display and mechanism and a one-piece clear polymer cover encloses the position indicator display and mechanism in the polymer housing. The position indicator may further include a hinge and hand-operated latch that secures the one-piece clear polymer cover to the polymer housing such that the one-piece clear polymer cover can be opened without the use of tools.

A transformer includes a tank having a side wall, a core defining a core window, and a pair of coils, each of which surrounds a portion of the core and includes a portion passing through the core window. The transformer further includes a core and coil support member that extends through the core window to support the core and coils. The core and coil support member includes an upper flange and a lower flange, each flange having a channel formed along an outer surface of the flange that conforms in shape to an inner surface of the core. The core and coil support member includes a web that extends between and connects the upper and lower flanges, the web including first and second ends that extend out from the flanges. The transformer includes a support bracket that attaches to the side wall of the tank, and centers and supports the core and coil support member. The support bracket includes three sides that define a channel through which an end of the core and coil member extends. The support bracket also includes a shelf formed from a lower end of a side panel, the shelf being substantially perpendicular to the first direction to support the weight of the core and coil support member when inserted into the channel. The support bracket also includes a tab formed from an upper end of a side panel. The tab is bent inwardly after the core and coil support member is inserted into the channel to provide a lock position to the core and coil support member in the first direction.
