A method of processing a part includes: identifying () a location of at least one hole () disposed in the part using a computer-aided design (CAD) model of the part (); aligning () the part in a mounting system (); 3D-scanning () the part (); detecting () at least one boundary feature of the hole () based at least partially on at least one datum from 3D-scanning () the part; and generating () a first toolpath () based at least partially on the boundary feature.

Automated identification of cooling holes and toolpath generation

A mask is provided for an additively manufactured part including a plurality of spaced openings in a surface of the part. The mask is made with the part and includes an attachment ligament configured to integrally couple to the part between the openings in a cantilever fashion. First and second cover members include a proximal ends integrally coupled to the attachment ligament and distal ends extending at least partially over a respective portions of the plurality of openings. A detachment member extends from each of the first and second cover members. The attachment ligament is the sole connection to the part. The mask may have an umbrella shape in cross-section.

A rework press assembly for reworking a dimensionally non-conformant component is provided. The rework press assembly includes a frame, a die coupled to the frame and configured to contact a first portion of the component, and a ram. The ram is coupled to the frame opposite the die with respect to an axis of the rework press assembly and is configured to contact a second portion of the component. The ram and the die define a component cavity therebetween. At least one of the die and the ram has a first length, relative to the axis, in response to the rework press assembly being at a first thermal condition. The at least one of the die and the ram has a second length, relative to the axis, in response to the rework press assembly being at a second thermal condition, and the second length is greater than the first length.

A method for modifying an aperture in a component, a system for modifying flow through a component, and a turbine component are disclosed. The method includes providing a substrate having at least one aperture having an electrically-conductive surface, providing a deposition device including an ESD torch, the ESD torch including an aperture penetrating electrode including a conductive material, inserting the aperture penetrating electrode at least partially into the aperture, and generating an arc between the aperture penetrating electrode and the electrically-conductive surface to deposit electrode material within the aperture. The system includes the ESD torch removably supported in an electrode holder. The turbine component includes at least one aperture having an electrospark deposited material along an electrically-conductive surface, the electrospark deposited material providing modified fluid flow through the turbine component.

Method for modifying an aperture and system for modifying flow through a component

A method of fabricating and repairing a gas turbine component having a plurality of cooling holes defined therein is provided. The method includes determining a parameter of a first cooling hole defined in the gas turbine component, and generating a tool path for forming a protective cap around the first cooling hole. The tool path is based at least partially on the parameter of the first cooling hole. The method also includes directing a robotic device to follow the tool path, and discharging successive layers of ceramic slurry towards the gas turbine component as the tool path is followed such that the protective cap is formed around the first cooling hole.

System and method of fabricating and repairing a gas turbine component

A method of protecting a hole in a component during a coating process is disclosed. The method includes: placing a plug in the hole, the plug including a water insoluble core and a water soluble layer surrounding at least a portion of an outer surface of the metal core. A coating is applied over the plug and at least a portion of the component. The component is immersed in water to dissolve the water soluble layer, allowing removal of the water insoluble core. Removal of the coating from over the hole and the water insoluble core from within the hole may follow.

A surface treatment tool according to the disclosure can include a laser emitter configured for substantial perpendicular alignment with a target surface of a blade structure, the blade structure being mounted on a rotor; and a controller communicatively coupled to the laser emitter, wherein the controller adjusts an energy output and a pulse time of the laser emitter to sublimate a contaminant from the target surface of the blade structure.

A tool for positioning a masking plug relative to a surface feature on a component is provided. The tool includes a body extending from a first end to an opposite second end. The second end is configured to couple to an attachment tool. The tool further includes a channel defined in the first end. The channel is sized to receive at least a portion of the masking plug therein such that rotational motion of the tool about a longitudinal axis is transferred to the masking plug. The tool is operable to releasably secure the masking plug to the first end.

A method for repairing one or more holes in a near wall of a component is provided. The method includes determining updated hole information, including an updated location, of a first hole in the near wall of the component. The method also includes directing a confined laser beam of the confined laser drill towards the near wall of the component at the updated location of the first hole to drill through a coating of the component extending over and/or positioned in the first hole. The method also includes sensing a characteristic of light reflected from the updated location of the first hole and determining the confined laser beam of the confined laser drill has drilled through a portion of the coating of the component extending over and/or positioned in the first hole based on the sensed characteristic of light.

A Method for modifying a plurality of cooling holes of a turbine component includes disposing a recess-shaped modification in a recess of the component comprising a plurality of cooling hole outlets, wherein the recess-shaped modification is formed to substantially fill the recess and comprising a plurality of modified cooling holes passing there through. The method further includes aligning the plurality of modified cooling holes of the recess-shaped modification with the plurality of cooling hole outlets of the component, inserting at least one alignment pin into at least one of aligned pair of holes and hole outlets, bonding the recess-shaped modification disposed in the recess to the component, and removing the at least one alignment pin after bonding, wherein the plurality of modified cooling holes of the recess-shaped modification is fluidly connected with the plurality of cooling holes of the component.

Coating methods and a coated substrate are provided. The coating method includes providing a component having an aperture formed in a surface thereof, arranging and disposing a hollow member on a portion of the surface to define a hollow space above the aperture corresponding to a shape of the aperture at the surface, applying at least one coating over the surface of the component and the hollow member to form an applied coating having an applied coating thickness, and removing at least a portion of the hollow member to expose the hollow space through the applied coating. The coated substrate includes a component having an aperture formed in a surface thereof, a hollow member arranged and disposed on the surface to define a hollow space above the aperture, and an applied coating over the surface of the component, the hollow space being exposed through the applied coating.
