The facility obtains valuation for the distinguished home by applying to the received home attributes evaluation model for homes in the distinguished geographic area that has been trained using selling price and home attribute data from homes recently sold in the distinguished geographic area. The facility reports the obtained valuation for the distinguished home.

Automatically determining a current value for a home

A facility for valuing a distinguished home located in a distinguished geographic area is described. The facility receives home attributes for the distinguished home. For each of a plurality of valuation sub-models, the facility applies the valuation sub-model to the received home attributes to obtain a sub-model valuation for the distinguished home. The facility further applies a meta-model to the record home attributes to obtain a relative weighting factor for each sub-model. The facility then uses the obtained relative weighting factors to combine the sub-model valuations to obtain an overall valuation for the distinguished home. The facility reports the obtained valuation for the distinguished home.

In one embodiment, a system may receive a bid request for an ad slot, and may receive cached user information with a first ad and a first ad score, and a second ad and a second ad score. The system may generate a first estimated probability of conversion associated with presentation of the first ad to the user, and may generate a second estimated probability of conversion associated with presentation of the second ad to the user based at least in part on the context information, the second ad identifier, and the second ad score. The system may select either the first ad or the second ad for which to generate a bid amount based at least in part on the first estimated probability of conversion and the second estimated probability of conversion.

A method and apparatus for regulating access to a computer via a computer network is provided, in which a local computer has an application program, a proxy program, and a firewall program. The proxy program monitors the communication between the application program and the computer network, and is able to detect when the application program requires a remote computer to initiate a new connection to the local computer. Upon detecting such a need, the proxy program changes the settings of the firewall program so that the remote computer is able to establish the new connection.

An application API is provided for applications to inform a firewall or firewalls of the application's needs, and a firewall API is provided that informs the firewall or firewalls of the application's needs. An interception module watches for connect and listen attempts by applications and services to the network stack on the local computer. The interception module traps these attempts and determines what user is making the attempt, what application or service is making the attempt, and conducts a firewall policy look-up to determine whether the user and/or application or service are allowed to connect to the network. If so, the interception module may instruct the host and/or edge firewall to configure itself for the connection being requested.
