A method and a system for providing vehicle services to at least one communication device located at a vehicle via a vehicle telematics unit. The method carried out by the system includes the steps of: receiving a request at the vehicle telematics unit for first vehicle services from a first communication device located at a vehicle; associating a first identifier with the first communication device; and providing the first vehicle services to the first communication device, wherein the vehicle services are provided according to at least one services parameter associated with the first identifier.

Providing cellular data to a vehicle over different data channels

A system and a method using that system that provides multi-tainment services in a vehicle. The method includes the steps of providing a vehicle telematics unit having wireless hotspot functionality; connecting the telematics unit via short range wireless communication (SRWC) to a vehicle multi-tainment unit (VMU) and at least one mobile device; identifying the VMU connection at the telematics unit; and providing the VMU with wireless hotspot data priority over the at least one mobile device.

The method includes the steps of: establishing data communication between a telematics backend system and one of a plurality of communication devices located at the remote vehicle; determining at the telematics backend system an access point name (APN) for at least one of the plurality of communication devices, a type of vehicle services data for the at least one of the plurality of communication devices, or both; and based on the determined APN, the type of vehicle services data, or both, transmitting from or receiving at the telematics backend the vehicle services data according to a network traffic shaping scheme.

A method of controlling a wireless hotspot at a vehicle includes receiving one or more Wi-Fi control variables along with a vehicle identity at a central facility; authenticating the received Wi-Fi control variables at the central facility using the vehicle identity; establishing a cellular connection between the central facility and a vehicle providing the Wi-Fi hotspot identified by the transmitted vehicle identity; and transmitting a command to change the Wi-Fi control variables from the central facility to the vehicle when the Wi-Fi control variables have been authenticated.

Remote control of vehicular wireless router settings

Methods and systems are provided for vehicle data communications. The system includes a vehicle communication component configured to receive data, encode the data to be transmitted, and transmit the encoded data wirelessly. A data delivery unit is configured to receive the encoded data, decode the encoded data, and present data in at least one format. A wired communication link couples the vehicle communication component and the data delivery unit. The wired communication link is configured to relay decoding information from the vehicle communication component to the data delivery unit such that the data delivery unit may decode the encoded data.

Vehicle communications system and method

A vehicle audio system such as a vehicle radio is integrated with a vehicle speech system so that outputted speech by the vehicle speech system is played through the audio system. When a speech session begins, the audio system mutes any entertainment audio being played and outputs audio speech received from the vehicle speech system at an initial volume that is constrained to be between minimum and maximum initial volume settings. These initial volume settings are automatically adjusted by the audio system if it detects that the user has a tendency to repeatedly adjust the volume past one of these settings each time a speech session is carried out.

A computer usable medium with suitable computer program code is employed for providing a telematics readiness mode.
