Methods and apparatus are disclosed for efficiently scheduling incoming information objects so that objects with the highest utility factors are scheduled for broadcast. The incoming information objects are preferably received from one or more information sources, and can be tagged with attributes that associate each object with one or more classes of information (e.g., sports, news, etc.), and/or can provide a gauge of the utility of the object. The tags can be used, for example, to select and broadcast objects from a variety of classes, and/or to identify the objects that provide the most utility at any given time.

Method and apparatus for scheduling broadcast information

Methods and apparatus are disclosed for efficiently scheduling incoming information objects so that timely objects from a variety of content classes are scheduled for broadcast. The incoming information objects are preferably received from one or more information sources, and are tagged with attributes that associate each object with one or more classes of information (e.g., sports, news, etc.), and provide a gauge of the timeliness or 'age' of the object. The tags can be used to select and broadcast objects from a variety of classes, and to identify the most timely objects at any give time.

A method and apparatus for encoding and decoding linear block codes while using limited working storage is disclosed. For decoding, the error syndromes are calculated incrementally as each encoded symbol is received. That is, as each symbol, r of the code word is received, the received symbol, r is multiplied by the entries in the &ldquo;ith&rdquo; column of a decoding matrix, resulting in intermediate syndrome components. The intermediate syndrome components are added to the appropriate entry in a syndrome vector. Once all symbols r are received, the syndrome vector contains the error syndromes s for the received code word.

Error-correction with limited working storage

A mechanism for maintaining information variety in an information receiving system which receives a stream of incoming objects each corresponding to one or more content categories. The information receiving system includes an object store for holding a set of cached objects for access by a consumer of information. The information receiving system includes an object store manager that determines which of the incoming objects are to be added to the object store and which of the cached objects are to be evicted from the object store such that a variety of information according to a set of consumer interests in the content categories is maintained in the object store.
