Disclosed systems and methods configure a plurality of wireless access points to perform probe request handling operations including, responsive to receiving a probe request from a mobile device, relaying the probe request to a network controller, and responsive to receiving a probe response from the network controller, relaying the probe response to the mobile device. The network controller is configured to provide the mobile device with a multipoint wireless network by identifying two or more of the plurality of wireless access points as selected access points for multipoint transmission with the mobile device, coordinating the selected access points to allow simultaneous transmissions to the mobile device from each of the selected access points, and forwarding a probe response indicative of the selected access points to the selected access points.

Multipoint wireless network

Disclosed virtual wireless networks include a network controller interconnected with wireless access points by a broadband backbone. The controller may include or interface with a gateway coupling the virtual network to the Internet via one or more interim networks. The broadband backbone includes network switches and broadband interconnects interconnecting the wireless access points and the network controller. The broadband backbone may be implemented as an optical backbone and the broadband interconnects may include one or more optical fiber interconnects. The network controller may control the manner in which mobile devices connect to wireless access points. The network controller may configure the wireless access points to present, to mobile devices within the isolated environment, the plurality of physical wireless cells provided by the plurality of individual wireless access points as a single virtual wireless network. The network controller may also assign wireless connections between mobile devices and wireless access points.

Virtual wireless network

A disclosed system quantifies the power distribution of a wireless signal within a constrained environment using non-sequential ray tracing. For each ray, one or more ray-reflecting surface is prescreened to identify collision-eligible surfaces and identify a collision surface from the collision-eligible surfaces, wherein the collision surface is the first ray-reflecting surface that a ray collides with. A power distribution component, indicating the position and power of a ray at a particular elevation within the environment, is added to a cumulative power distribution. If a reflected ray corresponding to each collision is calculated and satisfies ray eligibility conditions, a collision surface may be determined for the reflected ray. Collision surfaces may be identified by evaluating a target function for a number of ray positions, where the target function evaluates to zero when displacement between the ray and the ray-reflecting surface is zero.

Modeling wireless signal strength within a defined environment

A mid-infrared cascading fiber amplifier device having a source configured to generate a first electromagnetic wave output at a first frequency, a fiber coupled to the source and a pump coupled to the fiber and configured to generate a second electromagnetic wave output at a second frequency, wherein the second frequency is higher than the first frequency and causes the fiber to undergo two or more transitions in response to stimulation by the first electromagnetic wave output at the first frequency, wherein the first transition generates the first electromagnetic wave output approximately at the first frequency and the second transition generates the first electromagnetic wave output approximately at the first frequency.
