A preferred embodiment of the invention comprises a tool chuck for a power hand tool of the type which has a generally cylindrical elongated housing with a motor contained within the housing or case and the motor having an output shaft that extends from the nose end of the hand tool, and which has one or more light producing devices located at its nose end for illuminating the work area during operation. The preferred embodiment of the tool chuck has an annular cylindrical light transmitting portion on the outside of the chuck body portion for transmitting light toward a tool bit held by the tool chuck. The preferred embodiment may have an inwardly oriented front end surface to direct the transmitted light toward the axis of the tool bit and may have an outer layer of resilient material to facilitate easy gripping of the tool chuck to tighten or loosen a tool bit.

A preferred embodiment comprises a power hand tool of the type which has a generally cylindrical elongated plastic housing with a motor contained within the housing and having an output shaft that extends from the front end portion of the hand tool, and which has a metal front end portion that cooperates with the plastic housing to strengthen a shaft locking mechanism located at the front end of the hand tool. The metal front end portion not only strengthens the outer surface of the housing in the front end portion of the tool, but also has a pair of internal structural ribs positioned to absorb stress that may be present in the housing as a result of force applied to the shaft locking mechanism. The preferred embodiment is also designed to enable the shaft locking pin mechanism to be easily assembled and retained without the need for an E-clip or C-clip as is commonly the practice in commercially available spiral saw hand tools.

A power tool accessory system has a first accessory with a first connector for attaching the accessory to the power tool, and a second connector for attaching a second accessory to the first accessory. Preferably both attachment means are manually operable whereby the first accessory may be attached to a power tool and to a second accessory without the use of tools.

A preferred embodiment of the present invention is directed to a detachable flexible handle for a power hand tool and an attachment system associated with the handle and the tool for releasably attaching either a rigid or the flexible handle to the power hand tool. The system has housing attachment recesses on the tool that receive attachment clips located at opposite end portions of the flexible handle or structure of a rigid handle.

A generally C shaped power tool handle has two ends for releasably engaging the power tool housing, with a gripping portion between the ends. One of the handle ends has a release lever, while the other of the ends has an attachment arm. The release lever has an actuating end operable to detach the handle from the tool housing. Additional power tool handle embodiments are directed to a tool handle that has a gripping layer and a storage compartment in the handle, with a pliable lip in the handle for resisting movement of stored tools.
