A method of joining a plurality of parts to form a unitary body. At least two sintered parts are provided. At least one of the sintered parts has at least one internal channel. Each of the parts is formed of a hard metal composition of material. The at least two sintered parts are assembled into the shape of a unitary body. Each of the at least two sintered parts has a joining surface and when each joining surface is brought into contact the surfaces form a bonding interface therebetween. The assembled parts are subjected to a vacuum or gas atmosphere, without the application of external pressure, and to a temperature sufficient to fuse the at least two sintered parts together at the bonding interface to form the unitary body.

A method for manufacturing a rotary tool for chip removing machining with at least one chip flute that extends in the longitudinal direction of the tool. The method involves preparing a mixture of a cemented carbide, cermet or ceramics powder and a carrier, such as a polymer, and placing the mixture in an extruding machine. The mixture is extruded in a feed direction by means of a die to form the diameter of the mixture body. The mixture body passes against a chisel which forms a chip flute in the outer periphery of the mixture body by chip-removing machining. When the chisel is displaced away from the mixture body, a non-fluted shaft portion is formed. By rotating the mixture body while contacted by the chisel, a helical chip flute can be formed. Alternatively, the body could be twisted after a straight flute has been formed, whereupon the flute becomes helical.

Method and apparatus for making a rotary tool for chip removing machining

A method of making cemented carbide at which powders forming hard constituents and powders forming binder phase are wet milled together with a pressing agent is disclosed. The slurry is dried, preferably by spray drying, compacted into bodies of desired shape and sintered. A cemented carbide powder with a reduced compacting pressure at a predetermined weighing in of 18% shrinkage can be obtained by using from about 1 to about 3 wt-% pressing agent with the following composition: less than about 90 wt-% PEG and greater than about 10 wt-% of long chain C&#x2267;20 fatty acids, their esters and salts, in particular, erucic acid and/or behenic acid. The invention also relates to a cemented carbide powder with low compaction pressure.

The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a drill blank or a mill blank by extrusion, said method comprising the forming of a first blank portion (B) having external, axially extending external flutes and the forming of a further blank portion (B) in the shape of a shaft. The invention also relates to a device for manufacturing a drill blank or a mill blank. The method according to the invention is characterised by: extruding a first blank portion (B) having a free end and external flutes; allowing the extrusion to continue to supply further extruding mass into a cavity (), said supply of extruding mass completely filling out the external flutes of the first blank portion (B) to produce a second blank portion (B) integral with the first blank portion (B); allowing the extrusion to continue to produce a desired length of the first blank portion (B); and cutting off the first blank portion (B) at the end facing away from the second blank portion (B).
