As may be implemented in accordance with one or more aspects depicted herein, an apparatus and/or method involves monitoring heart rhythm of a patient utilizing a housing having amplifying circuitry and digitizing circuitry configured to amplify and digitize ECG signals. Two or more legs protrude from the housing, each configured to provide an electrical connection from an ECG electrode to the amplifying circuitry. Computing circuitry processes the digitized ECG signals, communication circuitry communicates data corresponding to the ECG signals, and data storage circuitry stores data corresponding to the ECG signals. A charge storage circuit provides power to the circuitry, computing circuitry, and communication circuitry. The legs mechanically connect to skin electrodes and to support the weight of the housing and its contents in response to the skin electrodes being adhesively secured to skin.

Methods and apparatuses for monitoring ECG

A patient monitoring device includes reusable and disposable portions. The disposable portion includes two or more electrodes for coupling to the skin of the patient, a battery, and a first set of electrical contacts. The reusable portion includes a processor, memory, a second set of electrical contacts, and sensing circuitry coupled to the at least two electrodes, wherein the reusable portion is mechanically coupleable to the disposable portion and wherein the reusable portion is electrically coupleable to the disposable portion through the first and second electrical contacts. The sensing circuitry and the processor are powered from the battery through the coupled first and second electrical contacts, and wherein when the reusable portion and the disposable portion are mechanically uncoupled after having been mechanically coupled, the disposable portion is rendered unusable by the process of mechanically uncoupling the reusable portion and the disposable portion.

Separable monitoring device and method

In one configuration, an adherent device to adhere to a skin of a subject includes a stretchable base layer having an upper side and a lower side and an adhesive coating on the lower side to adhere the base layer to the skin of the subject. The base layer has at least two openings extending therethrough, each of the at least two openings having a size. The adherent device also includes a stretchable covering layer positioned above and adhered to the base layer with an adhesive to define at least two pockets. The adherent device also includes at least two gels, each gel having a size larger than the size of openings to retain the gel substantially within the pocket, and a circuit carrier supported with the stretchable base layer to measure at least one physiologic signal of the subject. Other configurations and methods are also claimed.

The at least one active region is patterned from a second polymer material that is modified to perform at least one function within the at least one active region.

Soft MEMS

The present invention generally relates to systems and methods for an inertial sensor suspension that minimizes proof mass rotation and translation. The system contains a microelectromechanical sensor (MEMS) device for measuring rotation along an input rotation axis. The MEMS device includes at least one substrate, at least one proof mass, and a suspension system. The suspension system includes at least one flexure connecting the at least one proof mass to a substrate and at least one anchored suspension element with a split support beam having a first split portion and a second split portion. The first split portion and the second split portion are of curved shape.

Systems and methods for an inertial sensor suspension that minimizes proof mass rotation

An artificial sensor comprises at least one substrate, and a plurality of flow sensors disposed on the at least one substrate for providing a plurality of spatial-temporally varying signals representing a hydrodynamic stimulus. The plurality of flow sensors are spatially distributed on the at least one substrate. A processor is coupled to the plurality of flow sensors for receiving the signals and determining spatial-temporal information from the received signals.

Artificial lateral line

This invention provides thermal sensors and imagers that are flexible and capable of conforming to curved surfaces and corresponding methods of making and methods of thermal sensing. The thermal sensors contain an array of thermal resistors patterned in a row and column configuration, with each thermal resistor electrically isolated from other thermal resistors within the sensor. Thermal information is obtained from a region by measuring the resistance of each thermal resistor and calculating a thermal resistance for each entry of the array.

A micromachined artificial sensor comprises a support coupled to and movable with respect to a substrate. A polymer, high-aspect ratio cilia-like structure is disposed on and extends out-of-plane from the support. A strain detector is disposed with respect to the support to detect movement of the support.

A sensor chip, comprising a flexible, polymer-based substrate, and at least one microfabricated sensor disposed on the substrate and including a conductive element. Sensor chip and apparatus for tactile and/or flow sensing

A microfabricated pressure sensor. The pressure sensor comprises a raised diaphragm disposed on a substrate. The diaphragm is configured to bend in response to an applied pressure difference. A strain gauge of a conductive material is coupled to a surface of the raised diaphragm and to at least one of the substrate and a piece rigidly connected to the substrate.

Microfabricated pressure and shear stress sensors

An apparatus for detecting environmental conditions for a structure or article. The apparatus comprises one or more sensors for sensing conditions at the component or articles and producing one or more signals and a wireless transmitter for wirelessly transmitting data based on the one or more signals to a remote device.
