A facility for materializing a document is described. The facility identifies within the document a reference to a document fragment. The facility uses an identifier contained in the identified reference to retrieve document fragment contents stored separately from the document. The facility causes the retrieved document fragment contents to be displayed in context of the document.

Multimodal sharing of content between documents

A facility for managing an electronic document is described. The facility receives from a user input selecting a portion of the document, as well as input designating the selected document portion as being subject to approval-gated sharing. The facility persistently stores an indication that the selected document portion is subject to approval-gated sharing.

Sharing content between electronic documents

A facility for authoring a document is described. The facility receives first user input that identifies content to be included in the document. The identified content is in a first form. The facility also receives second user input that specifies a transformation operation to be performed on the identified content in order to transform the identified content from the first form into a second form. The facility applies the specified transformation operation to transform the identified content from the first form into the second form for display.

A facility for providing configurable access to a document's history is described. The facility receives input specifying one or more revisions to a document. The facility causes to be stored a representation of at least a portion of the revisions. When the facility receives a request to materialize the document for a particular entity, the facility materializes the document in a manner that includes any of the represented revisions only if the entity is among an authorized class of entities.

Configurable access to a document's revision history

A facility for annotating portions of a document shown in a visual representation of the document with annotations reflecting aggregated document activities performed with respect to the portions is described. The facility specifies a visual representation of at least part of the document. For each of at least two portions of the document that are not identical and that are represented in the specified visual representation, the facility attaches to locations in the document's visual representation corresponding to the portion a visual annotation reflecting an aggregation operation against document activities performed with respect to the portion.

Aggregate visualizations of activities performed with respect to portions of electronic documents

A facility for performing contingent redaction of one or more portions of a document is described. The facility receives a request to materialize an identified document that identifies an entity for which the identified document is to be materialized. For a portion of the document identified by the request, the facility retrieves a criterion that must be satisfied to include the portion in a materialization of the document identified by the request. The facility evaluates the criterion for the entity identified by the request with respect to a present time. The facility causes the document identified by the request to be materialized for the entity identified by the request in a manner consistent with the result of the evaluation.

Conditional redaction of portions of electronic documents

A facility for interacting with an electronic document is described. The facility causes to be displayed a visual representation of the document, and receives input representing a painting interaction with a portion of the displayed visual representation of the document that corresponds to a portion of the document. In response to receiving the first input, the facility imposes on the corresponding portion of the document a distinguished content classification level.

Painting content classifications onto document portions

Methods, devices, and computer-readable media that allow real-time rendering while navigating virtually about or through a digital 3-D volumetric model. Examples provide techniques to facilitate real-time rendering while navigating through and around the 3-D volumetric model that can have many thousands of particles, where the particles can have emissive, occlusive, and translucent properties. Such complex particles of the 3-D volumetric model are presorted along predefined viewing directions in order to enable real-time rendering from when a navigation control has been entered. Presorting of data may be performed at a processing device(s) located across a public or private network from a user's device on which the real-time rendering is performed.

Real-time rendering of volumetric models with occlusive and emissive particles

Concepts and technologies are described herein for generating scenes and tours in a spreadsheet application. In accordance with the concepts and technologies disclosed herein, a computer system executes a visualization component. Selection of an option to create a tour can be detected by the computer system. In response to detecting selection of the option, the computer system can create a tour. The computer system also can detect selection of an option to add a scene to the tour. The tour can be saved. Playback of the tour can be started in response to detecting selection of a play option. If the playback is paused, changes made to the tour and/or the scenes can be tracked by the computer system, and an updated version of the tour can be saved.

Generating scenes and tours in a spreadsheet application

Concepts and technologies are described herein for displaying temporal information in a spreadsheet application. In accordance with the concepts and technologies disclosed herein, spreadsheet data can be obtained at a computer system. The spreadsheet data can include data values, temporal information, and geographic information. The computer system can generate a visualization of the spreadsheet data based, at least partially, upon the data values, the temporal information, and the geographic location information. The computer system also can output the visualization.

Displaying temporal information in a spreadsheet application

Described herein are technologies that facilitate representing instances in time over 62 orders of magnitude as well as graphically depicting events over various time ranges and resolutions in time. A filter window is selected as a function of a resolution of a display, such filter window is applied over a representation of an instant in time. The position of the filter window along the representation of the instant in time defines a resolution in time, and such resolution in time is utilized to select graphical objects for display.

In a method of assisting in management of a collection of bookmarked web pages, browsing information is received. The browsing information is related to a history of web browser use. A ranked list of web pages is generated from a plurality of web pages which is received in the browsing information. The generating is based upon a function including one or more statistical elements of the browsing information. Management information is provided based upon the ranked list of web pages. The management information is for assisting in management of a collection of bookmarked web pages.

Indicators operable to preview or show the position and relative zoom level of a field of view within a virtual space. Virtual space exploration tools typically make use of a field of view for limiting a user's view of the virtual space and zooming in on a portion of the virtual space. A spherical indicator is provided to show the current position of the field of view within the virtual space, as well as provide an indication of level of zoom. A local field of view indication is also provided to show the current position of the field of view, as well as provide an indication of level of zoom, with respect to a nearby object within the virtual space. Such indicators may be useful in exploring outer space as well as landscapes and any other spaces.
