Bracket (10,80) adapted to be mounted to a conductive panel for mounting a shielded connector (50) thereto, where the connector is of a design intended for mounting to a circuit board but is instead terminated to a cable (70). Upper and lower wall sections (20,22) extend rearwardly from bracket body section (12) each having at least one locking tab (24,26,80) extending forwardly and inwardly almost to body section (12). Connector (50) is urged forwardly against body section (12) until locking tabs (24,26,80) seat behind flanges (62) of connector shield (60) and press against shield (60) to establish ground connections therewith.

A receptacle connector (10) including a single plug-receiving cavity (20) adapted for mating with at least two different plug connectors (80,90). A pair of detection contacts separate from the signal contact array include contact sections (66) proximate tabs (34) of a conductive shield (14) and engageable therewith upon deflection of the tabs. Tabs (34) are so positioned as to be deflectable upon mating with one particular plug connector (90), and not deflected upon mating with another particular plug connector (80), generating a signal upon mating with the one connector (90) and not generating a signal upon mating with the other connector (80). Circuitry of a circuit board (24) becomes reconfigured upon receipt of the signal to correspond with transmissions from the one connector (90).

Bracket (10) adapted to be mounted to a conductive panel (12) for mounting a shielded connector (50) thereto, where the connector is of a design intended for mounting to a circuit board but is instead terminated to a cable (70). First and second support sections (26,30) extend rearwardly from panel mounting section (16); connector (50) is placed therebetween, and solder joints are defined between the bracket and the connector's shield (64).
