Apparatuses of various forms and each having at least one LED string controlled by a current controller biased by voltage tap nodes in the LED string, and circuitry for implementing the same. In some implementations, circuitry made in accordance with the present disclosure includes a current controller and current-control circuitry. The current controller is biased by a voltage drop across one or more LEDs in an LED string and controls the current-control circuitry in a manner that controls the electrical current in the LED string. In some implementations, one or more additional LED strings and/or one or more other devices may be controlled directly or indirectly by operation of the current controller.

In accordance with the present disclosure, a control circuit may be employed for controlling delivery of energy from an input of a lamp assembly to a load of the lamp assembly. The control circuit may transfer a first amount of energy from an input to a load (e.g., comprising one or more light-emitting diodes) to cause the load to generate light external to the lamp assembly in accordance with a control setting of a dimmer indicating a user-desired amount of energy to be transferred to the load. The control circuit may also transfer a second amount of energy from the input to a second load to cause the second load (e.g., comprising one or more lower-efficacy light-emitting diodes) to dissipate the second amount of energy external to the lamp assembly, wherein the second amount of energy comprises energy present in the input signal other than the first amount of energy.

Systems and methods for maintaining dimmer behavior in a low-power lamp assembly

A communication system and method of operating the same that includes, in one embodiment, a transmit filter including a transmit filter capacitor, and a receive filter coupled to the transmit filter. The communication system also includes a switch, coupled to an auxiliary winding of a transformer and to the transmit filter capacitor, configured to alter an impedance of the transmit filter during a receive mode of operation of the communication system. In another embodiment, a transmitter is configured to receive an input data stream, and produce a control signal for a switch-mode power amplifier employing a predetermined data sequence selected by the input data stream thereto.

Communication systems adaptable to power line communications

An occupancy sensor with a separable override unit can selectively override the operation of the occupancy sensor at designated times and for selected time intervals. The occupancy sensor includes a light sensor to actuate the occupancy sensor and a light assembly when the ambient light is below a predetermined level and to deactivate the occupancy sensor when the ambient light is above a threshold level. The override unit is provided with a light source, such as an LED, to emit light to actuate the light sensor of the occupancy sensor, thereby controlling the occupancy sensor, such as by preventing the occupancy sensor from being actuated. The occupancy sensor includes a cavity for receiving the override unit with the LED aligned with the light sensor: A control unit is operatively connected to one or more override units for selectively controlling the normal operation of the occupancy sensor.

Electric load control system including remote override function

An occupancy sensor is provided with a separable override unit which can selectively override the operation of the occupancy sensor at designated times and for selected time intervals. The occupancy sensor includes a light sensor for actuating the occupancy sensor and a light assembly when the ambient light is below a predetermined level and to deactivate the occupancy sensor when the ambient light is above a threshold level to prevent the light assembly from being actuated when the light level is sufficient to avoid the need for actuating the light assembly. The override unit is removably attached to the occupancy sensor and is provided with a light source, such as an LED. The override unit is coupled to the occupancy sensor to emit light to actuate the light sensor of the occupancy sensor, thereby controlling the operation of the occupancy sensor, such as by preventing the occupancy sensor from being actuated regardless of the light level in the surrounding areas. The occupancy sensor includes a cavity on a top surface for receiving the override unit. The light sensor of the occupancy sensor is positioned in the cavity. The LED on the override unit in on an end that is inserted into the cavity to align with the light sensor. A control unit is operatively connected to one or more override units for selectively controlling the normal operation of the occupancy sensor.

Occupancy sensor and ambient light control

An occupancy sensor is provided with a housing having an interior cavity. A switch is mounted in the interior cavity of the housing and configured for placement in the open and closed positions. A fascia cover plate may be positioned on the housing to enclose the interior cavity. The fascia cover plate has a fascia rib on an interior surface thereof. The fascia rib is arranged to interfere with the switch in the disabled state to prevent positioning of the fascia cover plate on the housing.

Ambient light control system

A method and apparatus are provided for detecting occupancy in an area using multiple detection technologies (e.g., ultrasound and infrared sensing) to intelligently control switching of plural load circuits whereby one of the circuits is affected by photocell control. A programmable controller implements auto-on, manual-on, reversion to auto-on and override operations with respect to the separately controlled load circuits based on sensor outputs and user inputs. An improved power supply for an occupancy sensor and load control device employs a DC voltage derived from leakage AC voltage between line and ground to drive the sensors and other circuits, and a switching regulator with a switching cycle controlled by a pulse width modulated (PWM) subsystem of the apparatus, allowing synchronous, delayed or exclusive operation relative to the sensing technology such as the US transmitter.

Kits and methods and apparatus are provided for retrofitting a lamp for use with a modular lamp controller. In a representative embodiment, a kit includes a port connector, a first portion of a port adapter, a second portion of a port adapter, and a lock nut. The port connector is configured to accept a plug of the modular lamp controller. The first portion of a port adapter has a threaded section. The second portion of the port adapter has a threaded section. The first and second portions are configured to be placed in opposing relation about the port connector to securely surround the port connector while fitting into an opening within a fixture of the lamp. The lock nut screws onto the threaded sections of the first and second portions of the port adapter while placed in opposing relation surrounding the port connector to secure the port adapter and port connector within the opening.

Retrofit kit for modular lamp controller

Methods, apparatus, and systems are provided concerning modular lamp controllers. In one embodiment, a modular lamp controller dims a high intensity discharge lamp based upon occupancy. The lamp has a port within its fixture, and the port is coupled to a lamp capacitor. The modular lamp controller includes a housing, a plug, a capacitor, a switch, an occupancy sensor, a switch controller, a power supply, an interchangeable lens assembly, and a mounting adapter assembly. The plug is adapted to connect to the port. The capacitor couples in series with the lamp capacitor when the plug is attached to the port. The switch defines a full and reduced power state of the lamp. The occupancy sensor generates a signal indicating the presence of an occupant within a monitored space. The switch controller operates the switch to activate the full or reduced power state of the lamp based upon the occupancy signal. The power supply operates using current from the lamp when the plug is attached to the port. The interchangeable lens assembly acts as optics for the occupancy sensor, and the mounting adapter assembly mounts and locks the modular lamp controller into position.
