An abstracted digital memory acquisition circuit, including an analog input configured to receive an analog signal, an analog-to-digital converter configured to receive the analog signal and convert the analog signal to a first digital signal, a digital input configured to receive a second digital signal, a controller configured to receive the first digital signal and the second digital signal and output a stream of bits, the stream of bits including the first digital signal and the second digital signal, and a control signal, and an output configured to electrically connect to a digital input of a test and measurement instrument and output the stream of bits and the control signal.

A method can include receiving an input signal having multiple signal edges, performing an initial scan of the input signal to identify peaks corresponding to the signal edges, and determining whether each peak is a Uniformly Synchronous (US) edge or a Quasi-Synchronous (QS) edge. The method can also include generating a final waveform and displaying the final waveform on a display device.

Building sample rate independent timing diagrams using digital edge averaging

Rising and falling edges captured by a digital acquisition device appear to chatter on the X-axis by two or more sampling bin boundaries as live acquisition continually updates. This leads to a confusing display of limited usefulness. Averaging of multiple edges eliminates chatter while at the same time increases timing accuracy of the edges beyond the abilities of the base acquisition system. An object of the invention is to display a waveform for an averaged digital signal converted from an analog signal received by a signal processing instrument. A plurality of data acquisitions is stored in memory, and for each data acquisition, a number of rising and falling edges are identified. Each rising and falling edge is counted in each data acquisition. From these counted edges, an average waveform is calculated from the plurality of data acquisitions. The average waveform is displayed as an improved representation of the digital signal.

Gaining timing accuracy of digital signals through averaging in the X-axis

A lumped resistance electrical cable has a multiple twisted pair ribbon cable having first and second conductive lines and twisted and untwisted portions. In the untwisted portions, one of the conductive lines on each of the twisted pairs is formed with an electrical open. Resistor blocks having resistive elements and electrical contacts is disposed on the untwisted portions with the electrical contacts electrically coupling the resistive elements across the electrical opens in the conductive lines. Other electrical contacts in the connector couple the other conductive lines of the twisted pairs to an ground plane formed on the resistor block.

Lumped resistance electrical cable

A method of trace delay error compensation for measurements that are taken remotely from the signal source or receiver of a circuit uses data available from a computer aided design (CAD) tool to characterize electrical connections to an instrument measurement point, such as a connectorless probe, which is remote from the signal source or receiver. Extracted parameters from the CAD data are applied to signals acquired by the probe to adjust the signal timing and/or shape to more accurately represent the signal information timing at the signal source or receiver or other remote location of interest to a user. The corrected signals at the desired location may be displayed by a measurement instrument.

Trace delay error compensation

A multi-channel signal acquisition probe has a ribbon cable with ganged coaxial signal cables. The coaxial signal cables are separated into individual cables at one end of the ribbon cable. A junction box is mounted the ribbon cable with the individual cables extending through apertures in a front face of the junction box. An electrically conductive terminal is disposed in the junction box and extends into openings in opposing sides of the junction box. The electrically conductive terminal is electrically coupled to each outer shielding conductor of the signal cables. The free ends of each of the individual signal cables has a probing head. A terminal connector is disposed on the other end of the ribbon cable.
