A safety design system assists in the development of compliant industrial safety systems. User interfaces provided by the design system guide the user through an intuitive workflow for carrying out risk assessment analysis on industrial assets and designing safety functions for mitigating risks associated with the industrial assets. These user interfaces offer multiple views of safety system design aspects, including a layout view and a table view that offer alternative views of hazard and safety function data. The system also guides the user to the selection of suitable input, logic, and output devices for each safety function based on results of the risk assessment and local industrial safety standards.

Safety automation builder—integrator

A safety automation builder that assists in development of compliant safety functions for industrial safety systems is provided. The safety automation builder imports a system drawing or image of a user's manufacturing line, machine, or production area, and guides the user through a workflow that facilitates configuration of safety functions for each hazardous access point. The safety automation builder leverages a library of safety devices and encoded knowledge of industrial safety standards to guide the user toward selection of suitable safety devices for mitigating risks associated with the access points. Once configured, the safety automation builder can export the safety function data to an external verification system for confirmation that the configured safety functions comply with the prescribed industrial safety standards.

Safety automation builder

A system and method for controlling and monitoring operation of a valve are disclosed. The system includes an actuator and a switch that, upon being actuated, provides a control signal to the actuator designed to cause the valve to change from a first state to a second state. The system further includes a sensor positioned downstream of the valve, an indicator, and a detection device coupled at least indirectly to the switch, the sensor and the indicator. When not detecting a sensor failure, the detection device allows the indicator to indicate that the valve has changed its state in response to the switch being actuated when the sensor indicates that the valve has so changed. Upon detecting a sensor failure, the detection device prevents the indicator from indicating that the valve has changed its state in response to the switch being actuated.
