Waste streams from different chloromonosilane production processes are combined and reacted in a single recovery process. Useful monosilane species may be obtained with a single recovery process.

Process for recovery of high boiling waste

Magnetic separator devices that are useful in separating finely divided solids in the presence of liquids, vapors, and gases that are hazardous, that is, they may be corrosive, flammable, toxic, or a combination of such hazards, and the use of such devices in processes for the manufacture of chlorosilanes.

Magnetic separator apparatus

Magnetic separators are used for treating silicon-containing materials from chlorosilane reactors to remove magnetically influenced components in the silicon-containing materials. The removal of such impurities allows for enhanced reactivity of the silicon-containing materials in processes wherein the silicon-containing materials are raw materials for the production of silicon based compounds, such as, for example, basic alkylhalosilanes such as dimethyldichlorosilane, methyldichlorosilane, and other chlorosilanes such as trichlorosilane, which chlorosilanes are useful in the preparation of valuable silicon-containing products.

Magnetic separation for silicon-containing materials

A process for the production of monosilanes from the high-boiling residue resulting from the reaction of organochlorides with silicon metalloid in a process typically referred to as the 'direct process.' The present process comprises forming a mixture comprising an organosilane and the high-boiling residue and contacting the mixture in the presence of hydrogen gas with a catalytic amount of a catalyst composition effective in promoting the formation of monosilanes from the high-boiling residue. A preferred catalyst composition comprises aluminum trichloride, at least a portion of which may be formed in situ during conduct of the direct process and isolation of the high-boiling residue.
