A method, system and apparatus are disclosed for coupling independent reservoir and surface facility network simulators. A reservoir simulator is configured to simulate fluid flow in subterranean reservoirs and a surface facility network simulator is configured to simulate fluid flow in production equipment. Simulation of fluid flow in a subterranean reservoir is initiated using the reservoir simulator. Simulation of fluid flow in production equipment is initiated using the surface facility network simulator. The simulated fluid flow in the production equipment includes fluids produced from the subterranean reservoir. The simulation of fluid flow in the subterranean reservoir is coupled with the simulation of fluid flow in the production equipment using a sub-domain inflow performance relationship.

To provide feedback control in a simulation framework, any one of plural output metrics from a simulator of a subterranean structure is selected. A value for the selected output metric is received from the simulator. In response to the received value of the selected output metric and a target value of the selected output metric, at least one setting of the simulator is adjusted by a feedback controller.

A method includes initiating a first reservoir simulation on a first simulator for a first set of physical parameters of a first reservoir. The first reservoir simulator uses a first set of components for a compositional reservoir model. A second reservoir simulation is initiated on a second simulator. A network simulation is initiated on a network simulator to model a network for coupling the first reservoir and the second reservoir to a surface facility. The network simulator uses a second set of components for a compositional network model. The method further includes translating each of a first hydrocarbon fluid stream of the first reservoir simulator and a second hydrocarbon fluid stream of the second reservoir simulator to a common fluid model. Further, network balancing is initiated among the simulators at a corresponding point in each controller time step.

A 'near wellbore modeling' software will, when executed by a processor of a computer, model a localized area of a reservoir field which surrounds and is located near a specific wellbore in the reservoir field by performing the following functions: (1) receive input data representative of a reservoir field containing a plurality of wellbores, (2) establish a boundary around one specific wellbore in the reservoir field which will be individually modeled and simulated, (3) impose an 'fine scale' unstructured grid inside the boundary consisting of a plurality of tetrahedrally shaped grid cells and further impose a fine scale structured grid about the perforated sections of the specific wellbore, (4) determine a plurality of fluxes/pressure values at the boundary, the fluxes/pressure values representing characteristics of the reservoir field located outside the boundary, (5) establish one or more properties for each tetrahedral cell of the unstructured grid and each cylindrical grid cell of the structured grid, (6) run a simulation, using the fluxes/pressure values at the boundary to mimic the reservoir field outside the boundary and using the fine scale grid inside the boundary, to thereby determine a plurality of simulation results corresponding, respectively, to the plurality of grid cells located inside the boundary, the plurality of simulation results being representative of a set of characteristics of the reservoir field located inside the boundary, (7) display the plurality of simulation results which characterize the reservoir field located inside the boundary, and (8) reintegrate by coarsening the grid inside the boundary, imposing a structured grid outside the boundary, and re-running a simulation of the entire reservoir field.
