A vehicle system, apparatus, and/or method is provided. The vehicle system includes a powertrain including a prime mover and a transmission, and an electronic control system in operative communication with the powertrain including an adaptive cruise control (ACC) controller. The electronic control system is configured to determine a speed profile for a vehicle-in-front of the vehicle system while operating the vehicle system along a route. In response to the speed profile for the vehicle-in-front, the electronic control system is further configured to modify one or more output parameters of the powertrain to control one or more of a vehicle speed, a vehicle acceleration, and a vehicle deceleration of the vehicle system to inhibit control of the one or more output parameters by the ACC controller.

Dynamic powertrain control in coordination with adaptive cruise control

A cooling system for an electrified vehicle includes a first cooling loop for circulating coolant for cooling at least one of power electronics and a motor/generator of the vehicle. The first coolant loop includes a heat exchanger for exchanging heat with the coolant in the first cooling loop. A second cooling loop is provided for circulating coolant for cooling a battery of the vehicle. The second cooling loop includes a coolant chiller connected to a refrigeration system of the vehicle for exchanging heat in the coolant received from the battery with the refrigeration system of the vehicle.

Waste heat recovery power electronics cooling

A method for delaying cylinder reactivation in a vehicle includes identifying, by a controller, a request to exit a cylinder deactivation state. The controller determines if the request is due to a transient condition. If the request is due to the transient condition, the controller analyzes at least one of the transient condition and a condition of the vehicle. The controller determines a first adjustment to the vehicle based on analyzing at least one of the transient condition and the condition of the vehicle. The first adjustment is configured to mitigate the transient condition. The controller implements the first adjustment.

Delaying cylinder reactivation

A vehicle system includes an engine, a transmission, a differential, and a waste heat recovery (WHR) drive that converts thermal energy into mechanical and electrical energy. The WHR drive can include a WHR power unit structured to convert thermal energy into rotation of a WHR drive shaft. A motor/generator having a motor/generator shaft can selectively operate as a motor or a generator. A mechanical linkage is structured to selectively link an output shaft to one of the WHR drive shaft and the motor/generator drive shaft independently of the other of the WHR drive shaft and the motor/generator drive shaft. The output shaft is selectively coupled to one of the engine, the transmission, or the differential. The vehicle system may also include a traction motor to provide drive to the vehicle. The output shaft can be selectively coupled to the traction motor or the engine.

Waste heat recovery hybrid power drive

A waste heat recovery (WHR) hybrid power system can be utilized in vehicles to convert heat energy into mechanical energy. The WHR system can include a WHR power unit structured to convert thermal energy into rotation of a WHR drive shaft. A motor/generator having a motor/generator shaft can selectively operate as a motor or a generator. A mechanical linkage can be structured to selectively link a output shaft to one of the WHR drive shaft and the motor/generator drive shaft independently of the other of the WHR drive shaft and the motor/generator drive shaft.

The enclosed disclosure relates to hybrid vehicles and systems with an engine, a drivetrain with a clutch and a transmission, an electric machine, and a controller. The controller receives lookahead information within a lookahead window and present state information of the hybrid vehicle. The controller determines a predicted coasting opportunity exceeding a predetermined threshold within the lookahead window and determines a cruise control reference speed, a power split between the engine and the electric machine, and a timing of enabling engine-off coasting during the coasting opportunity. The controller deactivates the engine and disengages the clutch at a start of the coasting opportunity when the engine-off coasting is enabled.

Methods and systems for coordinating predictive cruise control, engine-off coasting, and hybrid power split

A system and method are disclosed for controlling shifting of a vehicle having an automated manual transmission. In the system and method, an amount of fuel being provided to a first grouping of cylinders is reduced, where the first grouping of cylinders are fewer than all of the available cylinders; the first grouping of cylinders are placed in an engine braking mode; a first gear of the vehicle transmission is disengaged; an amount of fuel being provided to a second grouping of cylinders which does not include the first grouping of cylinders is reduced; engine speed is reduced by braking; and a second gear of the transmission is engaged.

A system and method are disclosed for controlling the temperature of an aftertreatment system, the method including interpreting an aftertreatment indicating temperature, determining that an engine fueling requirement is zero, and disengaging the engine from a transmission in response to the aftertreatment indicating temperature falling below a first threshold value and in response to the engine fueling requirement being zero, where the engine and the transmission comprise a portion of a vehicle powertrain. Alternatively, the method may include interpreting an aftertreatment indicating temperature, determining that an engine fueling requirement is zero, and performing a reduced air flow operation through the engine in response to the aftertreatment indicating temperature falling below a first threshold value and in response to the engine fueling requirement being zero.

System, method, and apparatus for managing aftertreatment temperature

A vehicle system comprising: an engine; an aftertreatment system that receives exhaust gas from the engine; a clutch assembly; and a controller configured to direct adjusting slippage of the clutch assembly based on a first temperature that is selected from the group consisting of a temperature of the aftertreatment system and an expected temperature of the aftertreatment system.

According to one embodiment, an apparatus for controlling operation of an internal combustion engine includes a conditions module that is configured to determine an out-of-gear condition of the internal combustion engine. The apparatus also includes a permission module that is configured to allow a speed of the internal combustion engine to exceed a maximum engine speed limit if the determined out-of-gear condition meets a threshold, and prevent the speed of the internal combustion engine from exceeding the maximum engine speed limit if the determined out-of-gear condition does not meet the threshold.
