A method, network node and wireless device for reliable link performance for cellular Internet of things (IoT) and New Radio (NR) in non-terrestrial networks. In some embodiments, a network node configured to operate in a cellular non-terrestrial network is provided. The network node includes processing circuitry configured to provide an indication of transmission property information associated with a reconfiguration of precoding weights where the indication of transmission property information provides information associated with decoding a physical downlink shared channel or physical downlink control channel.

Reliable link performance for cellular internet of things and new radio in non-terrestrial networks

Systems and methods for supporting random access for wireless devices have different levels of random access pre-compensation and/or Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) capabilities are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method performed by a wireless device comprises obtaining two or more random access configurations for two or more wireless device classes that support different levels of pre-compensation for random access, have different GNSS capabilities, or both. The method further comprises selecting a random access configuration to be used by the wireless device from the two or more random access configurations. In this manner, random access is tailored to the capabilities of the wireless device.

Random access in network supporting UEs with different pre-compensation and/or GNSS capabilities

A UE is provided with a dedicated preamble for use in a two-step random access procedure, as well as dedicated, contention-free PUSCH transmission resources for the PUSCH part of msgA. In one embodiment, the base station transmits a partial PUSCH msgA configuration to the UE using dedicated RRC signaling. In another embodiment, the base station transmits a resource index to the UE indicative of a dedicated PUSCH resource for a msgA transmission via dedicated RRC signaling.

Two-step random access

Buffer Status Reports (BSR), by which the network is made aware of uplink transmission needs of wirless devices, are specifically enabled to be transmitted using 2-step Random Access (RA), to reduce latency and network resource use. In one embodiment, 2-step RA configurations tailored to BSR-transmissions are introduced. These may, for example, use a subset of the configured resources in the configured 2-step RA resources for BSR. In another embodiment, conditions for triggering BSR over 2-step RA, depending on the traffic, are introduced. For example, the priority or the the delay budget of the traffic may be used to determine whether a BSR over 2-step RA should be triggered. In another embodiment, simplified procedures when receiving the response to MsgA are introduced. These may include, for example, not transmitting a full MsgB, but rather having the UE receive an UL grant.

Efficient buffer status reporting over 2-step RA

According to certain embodiments, a method performed by a wireless device comprises receiving Assisted-Global Navigation Satellite System (A-GNSS) information in system information broadcast by a network, receiving signals from a set of GNSS satellites (the set of GNSS satellites comprises at least three GNSS satellites), and determining a location of the wireless device using the A-GNSS information and information received in the signals from the set of GNSS satellites. The method further comprises determining Doppler time and frequency offsets compared to a network satellite. The Doppler time and frequency offsets are determined based on the location of the wireless device. The method further comprises initiating a connection process with the network satellite by transmitting a random access signal with pre-compensated time and frequency, the pre-compensated time and frequency based on the determined Doppler time and frequency offsets.

GNSS data in non-terrestrial network system information

A method () performed by a wireless device () includes obtaining a remaining service time (T) associated with a first satellite or first spot beam. Based on the remaining service time, the wireless device determines whether to initiate a connection with the first satellite or first spot beam.

Power efficient non-terrestrial network connection establishment

Techniques are provided to enable use of more than two preamble group Bs during random access (RA) for connected UEs. This flexibility is achieved by configuring the active BWP to overlap with the 2-step RA resources on the initial BWP, configuring different sizes of preamble group B in the initial BWP and the active BWP, a allowing connected UEs in the active BWP to use the MsgA PRACH and MsgA PUSCH resources in the initial BWP without switching active BWP.

Random access resource configuration in different bandwidth parts for two-step random access

A method, system and apparatus are disclosed. In one or more embodiments, a network node for communicating with a wireless device is provided. The network node includes processing circuitry configured to receive measurement capability information of a wireless device where the measurement capability information indicates an ability to perform a global navigation satellite system, GNSS, measurement. The processing circuitry is further configured to determine a GNSS measurement gap configuration during which the wireless device is to perform at least one GNSS measurement during at least one GNSS measurement gap where the GNSS measurement gap configuration is based at least in part on the received measurement capability information, and indicate the GNSS measurement gap configuration to the wireless device.

Embodiments include methods for operating a network node in a non-terrestrial network (NTN) that utilizes one or more polarization modes for serving one or more cells. Such methods include transmitting, to one or more user equipment (UEs), an indication of at least one polarization mode configured for use in a first cell of the first NTN. The at least one polarization mode can be indicated in various ways, both explicitly and implicitly. Such methods also include transmitting and/or receiving one or more signals or channels in the first cell according to one or more configured polarization modes including the at least one indicated polarization mode. Methods and apparatuses are disclosed for PUSCH resource selection in 2-step random access (RA). In one embodiment, a wireless device is configured to receive a two-step RA configuration having: a first resource allocation for a PUSCH transmission of a first message, msgA, of the two-step RA procedure, the first resource allocation for the PUSCH transmission of the msgA being associated with a first set of preambles; and a second resource allocation for the PUSCH transmission of the msgA associated with a second set of preambles; select one of the first and second resource allocation and the associated one of the first and second set of preambles based on the two-step RA configuration and a payload size of the PUSCH transmission of the msgA; and transmit the PUSCH transmission of the msgA using the selected one of the first and second resource allocation.

PUSCH resource selection in 2-step random access

Embodiments include methods for user equipment (UE) random access to a cell in a wireless network. Such methods include selecting one of a plurality of available random-access preambles and mapping the selected random-access preamble to one of a plurality of available physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) resource units (PRUs) based on a mapping constraint. In the mapping constraint, one or more of the available PRUs are not used for the mapping and an integer number of the available random-access preambles are mapped to each of the available PRUs that are used for the mapping. Such methods also include transmitting the selected random-access preamble on a random access channel (RACH) and transmitting a data message on the PRU mapped to the selected random-access preamble. Other embodiments include complementary methods for a network node, as well as UEs and network nodes configured to perform such methods.

According to some embodiments, a method performed by a wireless device for handover in a non-terrestrial network (NTN) from a source cell to a target cell comprises receiving a conditional handover configuration for one or more potential target cells. The conditional handover configuration comprises a condition for handover comprising a timing advance threshold value for each of the one or more potential target cells. The method further comprises determining that a timing advance between the wireless device and one of the one or more potential target cells is less than or equal to the timing advance threshold and based on the determination, performing a handover to the target cell.

Minimizing signaling load during handover for NTN

A method is performed by a wireless device for communication in a non-terrestrial network, NTN, comprising at least a first non-terrestrial network node and a second non-terrestrial network node. The method includes determining an estimated location of the wireless device. The method further includes obtaining first location information associated with the first non-terrestrial network node and second location information associated with the second non-terrestrial network node. The method further includes calculating an estimated signal time arrival difference based on the location of the wireless device, the first location information, and the second location information. The method further includes using the estimated signal time arrival difference to provision an NTN-specific synchronization signal/physical broadcast channel, SS/PBCH, block measurement timing configuration, NTN-SMTC.
