A method performed by a method performed by a network node for performing admission control in a wireless communications network is provided. The network node serves a first and one or more second UEs. The network node receives () from the first UE, an access request for a radio resource for communication between the first UE and the network node. The network node further estimates () a first prediction of a requirement of the radio resource related to the access request, based on a measured initial data traffic between the network node and the first UE. The network node determines () a first threshold related to the first prediction, as a function of a measured data traffic load between the network node and the one or more second UEs. The network node then performs () admission control by deciding whether or not to admit the radio resource to the first UE, based on whether or not the first prediction exceeds the first threshold.

Network node and method in a wireless communications network

A framework for transfer learning for radio resource management-related tasks in radio access networks is defined in terms of functional entities of the network operator and associated signaling. A source learner () provides parameters or policies that incorporate knowledge related to another context than the actual context in which the RRM-related task is to be executed. A target learner () converts the source policies and parameters into models or target policies relevant to the actual context of the RRM-related task. The network node serves a number of User Equipments, UEs, comprising a first and one or more second UEs. The first UE has a radio resource allocated for communication between the first UE and the network node. The network node estimates () a first prediction of a forthcoming usage of the allocated radio resource, based on a measured data traffic between the network node and the first UE. The network node further determines () a first threshold related to the first prediction, as a function of a measured data traffic load between the network node and the number of UEs. The network node then performs () congestion control by deciding whether or not to initiate a removal of the radio resource allocated to the first UE, based on whether or not the first prediction exceeds the first threshold.

A method performed by a network node for managing a radio resource between the network node and a first User Equipment, in a wireless communications network is provided. The network node serves a number of UEs, comprising the first UE and one or more second UEs. The first UE has a radio resource allocated for communication between the first UE and the network node. The network node estimates () a prediction of a forthcoming empty data flow related to the allocated radio resource, based on a measured data flow between the network node and the first UE. The network node further determines () a threshold related to the prediction, based on a measured data flow between the network node and the number of UEs. The network node then decides () whether or not to initiate a removal of the radio resource allocated to the first UE based on whether or not the prediction exceeds the threshold.

Network node and method for deciding removal of a radio resource allocated to a UE

The technology in this application multiplexes transmission associated with multiple users onto the same unsolicited grant service (UGS) radio resource(s) in a packet-based, radio communications system. Normally, the radio resources in a packet-based communications system are dynamically scheduled in response to radio resource requests associated with specific user devices, and the scheduled communications are designed not to use the same radio resource at the same time. However, an unsolicited grant of radio resources for communication between multiple user devices and the packet-based communications system is also established. The communications between those multiple user devices and the packet-based communications system use at least some of the same radio resources associated with the unsolicited grant at the same time. Because of this at least partial radio resource overlap/collision, each of the multiple user's data to be transmitted via the UGS is associated with a user-specific radio resource pattern. A user's radio resource pattern permits a radio receiver to extract that user's data from the received UGS signal that include multiple user transmissions.

Multiplexing multiple unsolicited grant service (UGS) users onto a same radio resource

A wireless communication network improves reverse link communication performance by changing one or more Automatic Repeat Request (ARQ) control settings as a function of measured or estimated reverse link loading. Control settings can be changed on a per-sector basis, allowing consideration of different loading conditions in different radio sectors of the network. Further, control settings can be changed for individual mobile stations, or selected groups of mobile stations, allowing different ARQ controls to be used for different mobile stations. By way of non-limiting example, a control circuit in a base station controller can be configured to take advantage of light reverse link loading conditions in a given radio sector by changing the ARQ control parameter(s) used for one or more mobile stations operating in that sector so that fewer ARQ retransmissions are required for those mobile stations to transmit reverse link data to the network.

Method and apparatus to improve communication performance in ARQ networks

A radio base station performs reverse link rate control in a wireless communication network by 'stealing' bits on a forward common power control channel. The forward common power control channel is divided into a plurality of frames, with each frame including a plurality of power control groups and each power control group including a plurality of power control slots. The radio base station may dynamically select power control slots depending on user demand to be used for reverse link rate control.

Method of rate control

An apparatus and method provide MAC logic enabling the use of two or more reverse link rate controls at the same time in one or more sectors of a radio base station. That enables the base station to control reverse link loading via reverse link rate control, while assigning mobile stations to the type of reverse link rate control best suited to their needs. For example, the base station MAC logic may implement both a common rate controller that generates per-sector rate control commands, and a dedicated rate controller that generates per-user rate control commands and assign mobile stations having relatively lax reverse link service needs to the common rate controller, while assigning mobile stations having more demanding reverse link service requirements to the dedicated rate control. More than two rate controls can be implemented, and exemplary choices include per-user, per-sector, per-group, and scheduled rate control in any combination.

Generalized rate control for a wireless communications network

The present invention relates to the reuse of a control channel in a distributed cellular radio communication system. At least one physical channel, the so called physical control channel, in the radio communication system is used for transferring logical control channels. According to the present invention the physical uplink control channel can be reused with respect to logical control channels comprising an access request. The physical downlink control channel can be reused with respect to logical control channels comprising a message that access is granted to a mobile station or a message that someone requests contact with a mobile station. According to the invention the physical uplink control channel and/or the physical downlink control channel is reused. This means that more connections per time unit may be established in the radio communication system.

In particular, a digital speech encoder/compressor and a corresponding digital speech decoder/decompressor (together referred to as a codec) provided at remote transmitter/receivers and the regional switching center are also provided at the regional radio transmitter/receiver so as to apply the same processing to analog voice transmissions received from the remote transmitter/receivers as is applied to digital voice transmissions at the remote transmitter/receivers.
