A dilator may include a substantially conical body having a tip portion at a proximal end and a base portion at a distal end thereof. A wire lock portion may be configured to lock a guide wire to the dilator. A voice prosthesis holding portion may be connected to the substantially conical body by a connecting portion. The holding portion may have a central passage configured to have a tubular body of a voice prosthesis positioned therethrough, wherein at least one flange of the prosthesis is substantially unfolded proximally of the central passage.

Dilator for inserting a voice prosthesis

A dilator assembly for percutaneous dilatational tracheostomy includes a dilator element having a wall and a proximal end part extending into a distal tip part via an intermediate part. The wall has a substantially U-shaped cross section defining a dilator opening. The assembly extends towards the distal tip part. The dilator assembly is part of a tracheostomy device. The device has a first branch for arranging inside the trachea, and a second branch co-operative with the first branch. The first branch has a first end and a receiving member while the opposing second end has a first coupling part. The second branch has a first end with a guide for a neck penetration member and an opposing second end with a second coupling part for coupling with the first coupling part of the first branch. The first and second branches are detachably coupled together at their respective second ends.

Dilator assembly, a device for facilitating tracheostomy and methods of making a percutaneous tracheostoma

A device () for facilitating tracheotomy. The device comprises a first branch (), which is adapted to be introduced down the trachea of a patient, such that the end thereof is located below the larynx, and a second branch (), adapted to be arranged on the outside of the neck with the end thereof located adjacent to the site intended for the tracheostoma. The end of the second branch comprises a guiding tube for a needle, and the end of the first branch comprises a protection plate. When the needle is moved towards the skin through the guiding tube and penetrates the skin and tracheal wall in order to provide said tracheostoma, the needle is directed towards the protection plate, and may engage it after passage through the tracheal wall. In such a manner the other side of the tracheal wall is protected. Furthermore, the tracheostoma will automatically be located at the best position.

Device and method for tracheotomy

An improved method and device for securely inserting a tubular element () into a through-aperture () in a flexible wall () accessible from one side only. The tubular element has a retainer () projecting transversely at each end thereof, said retainer being resiliently foldable towards the axis of said tubular element. The element is inserted into a loading tube (), wherein the retainers are automatically folded into the correct orientation by an automatic bending means (). The bending means is part of a self-contained device for inserting said tubular element () into said through-aperture ().
