A method () for controlling shared buffer capacity in a packet switched network is disclosed, the packet switched network comprising a plurality of transport nodes, each node comprising a shared buffer capacity which may be allocated to interfaces of the transport node. The method comprises obtaining a configuration of traffic flows within the network (). The method further comprises, for a transport node, determining, on the basis of traffic flows within the network, an allocation of the transport node's shared buffer capacity between interfaces of the transport node to limit overall packet latency for the transport node (), and causing the determined allocation of shared buffer capacity to be applied in the transport node (). Also disclosed are an apparatus () and a transport node () in a packet switched network and a computer program product configured to carry out methods in a packet switched network and a transport node.

Methods and apparatus for shared buffer allocation in a transport node

A network node () samples data packets of network traffic. For each sampled data packet, the network node () compares a packet header of the sampled data packet to a set of one or more packet header patterns. Depending on the comparison, the network node () determines a length of a packet header portion to be extracted from the sampled data packet. Then the network node () extracts the packet header portion of the determined length from the sampled data packet and generates a datagram comprising the extracted packet header portions of the sampled data packets.

Length control for packet header sampling

A method (), performed by a first network node in a communication network, is disclosed. The first network node is connected to a second network node of the communication network via an interface implementing a GPRS Tunnelling Protocol (GTP). The method comprises selecting a user data packet for transmission to the second network node () and identifying information about the user data packet which impacts how the user data packet should be routed over the interface (). The method further comprises encoding the identified information into a User Datagram Protocol (UDP) header of the user data packet () and forwarding the user data packet to the interface for transmission to the second network node (). Another method () is disclosed, performed by a node in a Mobile Transport Network, the Mobile Transport Network providing a GTP based interface between a first network node of a communication network and a second network node of the communication network. The method comprises receiving a user data packet from the first network node for transmission over the interface to the second network node (), extracting, from a UDP header of the user data packet, information about the user data packet which impacts how the user data packet should be routed over the interface () and using the extracted information in a routing decision to forward the user data packet to the second network node (). Also disclosed are a communication network node (), a Mobile Transport Network node () and a computer program configured to carry out methods in a communication network node and a Mobile Transport Network node.

Methods and apparatus for network communication over an interface

A method, arrangement, and transceiver for monitoring noise on a twisted pair cable adapted to transfer Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) signals with a given data symbol rate. A spectrum analyzer measures the power spectral density of a background or substantially pure noise signal. A switch and frequency detector determine whether the background pure noise signal includes repetitive impulse noise, and if so, a processor calculates the pulse width of the repetitive impulse noise utilizing an established relationship between the given data symbol rate and the frequency of the repetitive impulse noise given by the power spectral density measurements.

Arrangement and method relating to digital subscribe lines

A qualification and monitoring function () monitors the line conditions of a last mile access network that is connected with a multi-access broadband network. The qualification and monitoring function () sends data to a Resource Manager () of the access network upon request. The monitoring function collects, stores, and analyzes performance data, media conditions and stability data using interpretation filters to derive performance indicators. The conditions of the network are also automatically provided to the resource manager () for immediate attention if the access network conditions exceed predetermined thresholds.

Distributed resource management for multi-service, multi-access broadband networks

The invention refers to single-ended test of a loop (). A test device (TD) is connected to a remote device () via a line (). The remote device is powered on and transmits intermittently handshake signals (HS), which can disturb the loop test. A receiving and calculating unit (RE) detects the handshake signals (HS) and orders a sending unit (SD) to send a halting signal (NAK-EF) to the remote device. The latter is halted for predetermined silent period of time, during which the test or a part of it is performed. If required the halting of the handshake signals is repeated. The test device sends a broadband loop test signal (S) and receives a reflected signal (S) during the silent period. A frequency dependent echo transfer function is generated from the signals (S, S) and is used for generating desired properties of the line () such as its length (L).
