A surgical tool device for effecting implantation of an implant such as an acetabular cup during a hip replacement surgery is described. The surgical tool holder has a strike plate, a body, a proximal fixed handle, a distal rotate handle, an insert handle with threads, an impactor head, a shaft, the shaft pin, a shaft ring, and a spring. In use, when a surgical implant device is threaded onto the shaft, the surgeon merely rotates the assembly comprising the distal rotate handle and the insert handle with threads in one direction, which causes a distal threaded area of the shaft to rotate in a second, opposite direction to act as a lock-nut for the surgical implant. This movement simultaneously pulls the shaft toward the surgical tool holder proximal end. The pulling motion ensures the surgical implant device is positioned against the impactor head's contacting surface to provide a rigid assembly for good tactile feel during the implantation of the cup.

Straight cup impactor

An orthopedic prosthetic impactor used for the implantation of double mobility cup implants is described. The impactor consists of a drive train, a C-shaped housing, and a prosthetic cup engaging subassembly. The subassembly comprises an impaction plate, a primary cup contacting member, a secondary cup contacting member and a wedging assembly. The primary and secondary cup contacting members, contactable with an interior surface of the prosthetic cup implant. When activated by the drive train, the wedging assembly moves in a proximal direction towards the impaction plate, positioning the wedging assembly in a contactable relationship with the primary and secondary members thereby preventing the members and a connected prosthetic implant cup from moving during implantation.

An orthopaedic prosthetic inserter used for the implantation of double mobility cup implants is described. The inserter consists of a drive train, a C-shaped housing, and a prosthetic cup engaging subassembly. The subassembly comprises an impaction plate, a grasping plate and a domed nose. When activated by the drive train, a plurality of hook ends extending from the grasping plate latch onto the cup of the prosthetic to hold and manipulate the prosthetic cup during implantation.

An orthopedic impactor device for positioning an orthopedic prosthetic cup implant during a hip replacement surgery is described. The impactor is designed with a 'one piece' elongated body portion, having a distal prosthetic cup engagement portion which is separated from a proximal strike plate by an elongated body and handle portions. A connection rod, connectable to an orthopedic prosthetic cup, is positioned longitudinally within the through-bores of the body and handle portions. A lever arm, having a linkage member, is pivotally connected to the rod such that when the lever arm is pivoted towards the exterior surface of the annular sidewall of the handle portion, the distal end of the rod moves within the body portion.

A surgical tool handle for releasable connection to a surgical tool is described. The tool handle comprises a housing providing a linkage chamber extending from a proximal housing grip end to a distal housing tool end for receiving a surgical tool. A tool linkage is partially housed within the housing linkage chamber comprising an axial handle region extending along axis A-A and a radiused housing region curving about a focal point. That way, a locking pawl of the tool linkage changes planes from its proximal end to a distal extending hook end. This provides a relatively short connection to a surgical tool that is optimum in the tight space requirements of a minimally invasive hip surgery.

A surgical tool handle for releasable connection to a surgical tool is described. The tool handle comprises a housing providing a linkage chamber extending from a proximal housing grip end to a distal housing tool end for receiving a tool. A tool linkage is partially housed within the linkage chamber. That way, manipulation of the tool linkage causes a locking pawl to pivot with respect to the housing from an open configuration ready to receive a tool for attachment to the housing to a closed configuration engageable with the tool supported at the distal housing tool end.

An orthopedic impactor device for positioning an orthopedic prosthetic cup implant during a hip replacement surgery is described. The impactor is designed with a 'one piece' elongated body portion, having a distal prosthetic cup engagement portion which is separated from a proximal strike plate by an annular sidewall. A handle portion is positioned circumferentially around the annular sidewall of the elongated body in a slidable relationship along a longitudinal axis. A rod, connectable to an orthopedic prosthetic cup, is positioned within a cavity of the body and connected to the proximal ring. A lever arm having a distal wedge portion is pivotally connected to the handle portion such that when the lever arm is pivoted towards the annular sidewall of the handle portion, the distal end of the rod moves within the body cavity.

An orthopaedic prosthetic inserter used for the implantation of double mobility implants is described. The inserter consists of a drive train, a C-shaped housing, and a prosthetic cup grabbing subassembly. The subassembly comprises a frustro-conical nose and an expandable dome. When activated by the drive train, the dome expands into the cup of the prosthetic to manipulate the prosthetic during implantation.

An orthopedic prosthetic inserter used for the implantation of an acetabular prosthetic cup implant. The inserter consists of a drive train, a C-shaped housing, and a collet mechanism used to attach a prosthetic cup implant. When activated by the drive train, the collet mechanism expands to draw the prosthesis towards the collet mechanism and create a substantially friction tight engagement therebetween.

An adaptor/holder () is described which attaches to the front () of an existing orthopedic inserter/impactor handle () via the handle's existing threaded interface mechanism (). The adaptor/holder () has an annular housing () that snaps onto the front () of the existing inserter (), and has an internal yoke and pin assembly () that attached to the handle's interface mechanism (). The holder () adapts the inserter () to much more easily and quickly release from a prosthetic component () after the component () is surgically implanted in a patient, and with less mechanical manipulation than could otherwise be accomplished using the inserter () alone. The adaptor/holder utilizes the inserter's existing mount tensioning (draw piston) mechanism () to quickly engage and disengage the prosthetic component (). Upon activation of the inserter's tensioning mechanism (), the holder () receives and fixes a prosthetic component () to the end () of the inserter (). Deactivation of the inserter handle's tensioning mechanism () quickly accomplishes release of the prosthetic component () with minimal manipulation.

A surgical tool holder aids a surgeon in controlling the use of a tool during, for example, preparation of a femoral cavity for reception of hip joint prosthesis. The holder has a housing that encloses a mechanism having, at a far end, a tool-engaging interface, and at the opposite end, a handle which facilitates manipulation of the tool during use in preparing a bone site by the surgeon. The holder enables easy orientation of the tool attached to its end, which is important because control of the tool is critical in order to accurately prepare a recess for reception and installation of a prosthesis.
