The present invention provides soluble single wall nanotube (SWNT) constructs functionalized with a plurality of a targeting moiety and a plurality of one or more payload molecules attached thereto. The targeting moiety and the payload molecules may be attached to the soluble SWNT via a DNA or other oligomer platform attached to the SWNT. These soluble SWNT constructs may comprise a radionuclide or contrast agent and as such are effective as diagnostic and therapeutic agents. Methods provided herein are to diagnosing or locating a cancer, treating a cancer, eliciting an immune response against a cancer or delivering an anticancer drug in situ via an enzymatic nanofactory using the soluble SWNT constructs.

Neuroprotective compounds and methods of use

Compounds that inhibit digestion in blood-ingesting pests are described herein. In one embodiment, the compounds described herein block entry of blood into the midgut and thereby inhibit digestion and nutrient processing. In another embodiment, the compounds described herein prevent pathogens contained in the blood meal from entering the midgut where they could cross the epithelial cell layer and infect the mosquito. The compounds can be administered to a population of blood-ingesting pests, such as mosquitos, directly or indirectly in an effective amount to prevent mosquitoes from transmitting diseases such as malaria, dengue fever, West Nile virus and lymphatic filariasis. Preferably, the compounds are lethal to blood-ingesting pests. The compounds can be combined with one or more excipients to prepare compositions.

Vinyl oxiranes are rearranged to 2,5-dihydrofuran using catalyst (III) or (IV). The 2,5-dihydrofuran can be reduced to tetrahydrofuran. 3,4-Epoxy-1-butene substrate is converted to 2,5-dihydrofuran which in turn is converted to tetrahydrofuran. Substrate for making 3-methyltetrahydrofuran is prepared from isoprene. Substrate for making 2-methyltetrahydrofuran is prepared from piperylene. Reactions analogous to that with vinyl oxiranes are carried out with vinyl thiiranes and vinyl aziridines.
