A flange assembly for a drum of an image forming apparatus. The flange assembly including a flange having a hollow portion that extends from a first end of the flange to a second end of the flange, and a grounding member provided within the hollow portion of the flange. The grounding member is configured to ground the drum by contacting a ground pin of the image forming apparatus when the drum and the flange assembly are mounted to the image forming apparatus. When the grounding member is provided within the hollow portion of the flange, an open space is provided along an entire length from the first end of the flange to the second end of the flange. The driving flange has a generally triangular-shaped drive member at a terminal end thereof, and the drive member is configured to mate with a drum drive assembly of the image forming apparatus.

Grounding assembly for a drum in an image forming apparatus

Method of replacing an organic photo conductor (OPC) drum of an image forming apparatus, the image forming apparatus having a support carriage arranged to axially support the OPC drum at a first end and a second end. The method includes removing the OPC drum from the support carriage and procuring a replacement OPC drum having a first axial flange/endpin and a second axial flange/endpin. The first axial flange is inserted into the first end of the support carriage and the second end of the support carriage is elastically deformed. Then, the second axial flange is inserted into the second end of the support carriage, and a force is exerted against the second axial flange until the second end of the support carriage returns to an un-deformed state.

Method of replacing and/or remanufacturing an organic photo conductor drum for an image forming apparatus

A photosensitive drum assembly for an image forming apparatus. A drum defines first and second open ends. A flange is partially disposed in the first open end. A grounding plate assembly includes a drum contact member and a shaft contact member. The drum contact member is configured to remove an electrically resistive coating from an interior of the drum. The shaft contact member is configured to contact a grounding shaft. The shaft contact member is disposed entirely within an interior of the flange.

Grounding plate assembly for a drum in an image forming apparatus

A coupling arrangement with an optical photoconductive drum including a drum interior surface having an electrically resistive coating surrounding and extending along a longitudinal axis. The drum interior surface includes first and second open ends. A flange including a flange interior surface is disposed in the first open end. A flange exterior surface is disposed outside of the first open end. A flange side surface connects the flange interior and exterior surface. A grounding plate is disposed in the first open end and includes an outwardly extending contact that contacts the drum interior surface and removes a portion of the electrically resistive coating to achieve electrical connection with the drum interior surface and to hold the flange.

Coupling arrangement including optical photoconductive drum and grounding plate

A device and method for reducing noise and/or vibration in an image forming apparatus. In a preferred form, an insert is disposed inside of a photosensitive drum, and the insert is an elastic member having, in a relaxed state, an outer diameter larger than an inner diameter of the inner surface of the photosensitive drum. The elastic member is configured such that when it is elongated in a longitudinal direction, the outer diameter of the elastic member may be elastically reduced to a diameter equal to or less than the inner diameter of the photosensitive drum, and after insertion, the overall diameter of the insert can be increased such that the outer surface of the insert comes into contact with an inner surface of the drum. Alternately, the insert is compressed to allow insertion, and once inserted, projections on the insert hold the insert against the inner surface of the drum. As such, the insert can be anchored to the interior of the drum without using adhesive and can be easily removed for recycling purposes. The drum can optionally also contain a pressurized gas.

Weighted noise reducing device for photosensitive drum of an image forming apparatus

An improved grounding plate or contact assembly is provided for a photosensitive drum of an image forming apparatus such as a printer or photocopier. The arrangement ensures contact between the grounding plate/contact assembly and a contact area disposed on an interior surface of the drum regardless of the rotational orientation of the grounding plate/contact assembly with respect to the drum. In a preferred form of the invention, the grounding plate includes a plurality of circumferentially spaced contact members and is mounted upon a flange which is inserted into the end of the drum. Since the circumferential spacing of the contact members is less than a length of a laser scribed contact area on the interior surface of the drum, contact between the laser scribed area or patch and one of the contact members is ensured despite variations in the rotational or angular position of the flange with respect to the drum. Additional advantages are provided by the arrangement of the radially outwardly extending contact members with respect to a radially inwardly projecting contact member (which contacts a grounding shaft) so that satisfactory contact is not diminished by deflection of the contact members as the flange is assembled onto a drum and a grounding shaft is inserted through the flange.
