Embodiments of the present disclosure include separating devices and systems and methods of use. Embodiments of the present disclosure include separation devices including magnetic arrays and sheet-flow separation chambers. In an embodiment, the separating device enables the generation of multiple, and in some configurations, intersecting, high gradient magnetic field lines, resulting in strong separation forces, which permit for scale up to large areas and/or volumes (e.g., extracorporeal blood filtration system).

Magnetic particle conjugates and methods of activating cell signaling

Provided herein is a magnetic apparatus for collecting superparamagnetic particles from a subject. The superparamagnetic particles are previously injected into the subject and have ligands bound thereto that are specific for one or more non-cell biomarkers. In one embodiment, the superparamagnetic particles are injected into and retrieved from a cavity such as a joint cavity. These compositions and methods allow for the sequestration and removal of inflammatory mediators, as both a diagnostic of the local immune response and a therapeutic that can reduce inflammation in the local disease environment.

Magnetic apparatus and methods of use

TGF-&#x3b2; growth factor and its latent complex are conjugated to magnetic micro- or nanoparticles and to magnetic micro- or nanodiscs. By exposing the resulting conjugates to magnetic fields, the TGF-&#x3b2; growth factor can be released from its latent complex in vivo, potentially making it useful in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. And by exposing a conjugate of TGF-&#x3b2; growth factor and a magnetic particle to a sufficiently strong, radiofrequency magnetic field, the TGF-&#x3b2; growth factor can be denatured and thereby deactivated, potentially making it possible to avoid triggering tumorigenesis, atherosclerosis, fibrotic disease, and cancer.

In one embodiment, the presence of anomalous material within tissue is detected by scanning a patient using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to obtain MRI data, identifying individual voxels of the MRI data, identifying multiple parameters of each voxel, and determining as to each voxel based upon the identified parameters the likelihood of tissue represented by the voxel containing anomalous material.
