Embodiments are directed to a ventilation device and method to be used on a patient during CPR. In one embodiment, the ventilation device comprises a housing having at least one opening for interfacing with a patient's airway, at least one valve configured to permit outflow of respiratory gases/air from the airway to ambient, a release mechanism for opening and closing an inlet passage to permit inflow of respiratory gases/air to the airway, and a control device for controlling the opening/closing of the inlet passage.

Ventilation device and method for CPR

A method for monitoring chest compressions using a compression member includes measuring a force exerted by the compression member, measuring a displacement of the compression member, providing a chest stiffness function representing the relationship between force and displacement based on values derived from the measured force and the measured displacement, and analyzing linearity of the chest stiffness function. Embodiments of the invention also include devices for performing the method.

Devices and methods for monitoring chest compressions

A device for monitoring respiration comprises a duct, a flow restricting element in the duct, and a pressure sensor arranged in the duct. The pressure sensor measures a pressure drop across the flow restricting element as a pressure difference between a pressure at a location in the duct on a first side of the flow restricting element and a substantially constant pressure on a second side of the flow restricting element opposite the first side.
