A method of assembling an adjustable fluid-filled lens assembly comprising biaxially tensioning an elastomeric membrane to a surface tension of greater than 180 N/m, typically greater than 1000 N/m; thermally conditioning the tensioned membrane, e.g., for one hour at a temperature of about 80&#xb0; C., to accelerate relaxation of the membrane; mounting the membrane to a peripheral support structure whilst maintaining the tension in the membrane; assembling the mounted membrane with one or more other components to form an enclosure with the membrane forming one wall of the enclosure; and thereafter filling the enclosure with a fluid. The membrane may be formed from an aromatic polyurethane, and the fluid may be a phenylated siloxane. In some embodiments, the membrane is able to hold a substantially constant surface tension of at least 180 N/m for a period of at least 12 months.

Adjustable fluid-filled lens assembly and method for assembling the same

A processor-based device for displaying simulated or modeled surface appearances based on surface color and surface texture data stored in a data storage. By selecting different combinations of color and texture, different surface appearances may be modeled and displayed. Also, the device may comprise an orientation sensor. Accordingly, the device may additionally consider the orientation of the device when generating surface appearances.

Surface appearance simulation

A deformable membrane assembly comprises a deformable membrane () in contact with a body of fluid () and a selectively operable adjuster for adjusting the pressure of the fluid () for causing distension of the membrane () in accordance with a predefined form. The membrane is held peripherally by a bendable supporting member () that is coupled to a fixed support by at least three engaging members () at spaced locations round the supporting member (). An engaging member () is provided at or proximate at least one point round the supporting member () where the profile of the supporting member () corresponding to the predefined form of the membrane () exhibits locally maximum or minimum curvature in the direction of distension of the membrane ().

Deformable membrane assemblies

An apparatus for measuring a spatially under-sampled Bidirectional Reflectance Distribution Function (BRDF) of a surface. The apparatus may comprise a first light source directed to illuminate the surface from a first illumination direction, and a plurality of sensors positioned to receive light reflected by the surface. The plurality of sensors may comprise first, second and third sensors positioned to receive light reflected by the surface in first, second and third non-coplanar directions. In various embodiments, the apparatus may also comprise a computer in communication with the plurality of sensors. The computer is configured to convert light sensed by the plurality of sensors into a first appearance property of the surface considering the first, second, and third reflectance directions. A method of calculating xDNA, the vector sum of the observed reflectance intensity over a plurality of wavelengths and angles. Methods of using the calculated xDNA for formulating recipes for a surfaces colors. Furthermore, a method for using the calculated xDNA for rendering the surface color.

Method and system for enhanced formulation and visualization rendering

A system () for sensing a temperature of a light emitting diode (LED). The system may comprise an LED having a spectral output centered at a first wavelength, a first filter () that transitions from attenuation to transmission at about the first wavelength, and a second filter () that transitions from transmission to attenuation at about the first wavelength. The system may also comprise a first sensor () positioned to sense a first intensity of the LED through the first filter and a second sensor () positioned to sense a second intensity of the LED through the second filter. It will be appreciated that a single sensor may be substituted instead of the first and second sensors, provided that the single sensor is capable of selectively viewing the LED through the first and the second filters. The system may also comprise a computer () configured to derive a temperature of the LED considering the first intensity and the second intensity.

Sensing temperature of a light emitting diode

Computer-implemented systems and methods for processing image data of a process-free plate are provided according to the present disclosure. The systems and methods may, generally, include a data acquisition step/means for receiving image data using one or more channels of a imaging system, each channel functioning to image the same target region of a process-free plate using a different wavelength of light, and a data processing step/means for filtering the image data using at least one of: (i) self-filtering, (ii) Fourier shrinkage and (iii) Wavelet shrinkage. When the image data is received using a plurality of channels, the received image data may advantageously be combined so as to optimize contrast-to-noise performance. The disclosed systems and methods may advantageously perform the operations of image de-noising, contrast enhancement, and thresholding, and may further involve compensation techniques, e.g., for minimizing distortion and blurring effects.

Systems and method for optical scatter imaging of latent image plates

An optical system comprising an optical instrument and a processing unit. The optical instrument may comprise an illumination source and a sensor. The processing unit may comprise a data storage having stored thereon a characterization of the illumination source and a characterization of the sensor. The processing unit may also comprise a computer configured to calculate a system response of the illumination source and the receiving element considering the characterization of the illumination source and the characterization of the receiving element.

Apparatus and methods for facilitating calibration of an optical instrument

An optical assembly is disclosed that includes an illumination source, a detection sensor, a monitor sensor, and an optical piece having a first side adapted to face a sample. The optical piece defines an illumination channel extending from the illumination source toward the first side, a detection channel extending from the first side toward the detection sensor, and a monitor channel extending from the illumination channel toward the monitor sensor. A spectrophotometer is also disclosed that includes a circuit board, illumination source and one or more sensors. The circuit board includes an optically transparent region, wherein the illumination source is mounted and situated relative to a first surface of the circuit board, so as to direct light through the optically transparent region. Each sensor is mounted and situated relative to a second surface of the circuit board opposite the first surface.

Optical instrument and parts thereof for optimally defining light pathways

An apparatus, system and method for targeting an image formed on an imaging member. The imaging member includes an imaging sensitive layer formed thereon. The imaging member includes imaged and non-imaged areas. Light of a predetermined wavelength reflected from a target area of the imaging member is received. The light reflected from the target area is representative of an image formed on the imaging sensitive layer using energy at approximately the predetermined wavelength. The predetermined wavelength is suitable to initiate crosslinking of the imaging sensitive layer.

Devices and methods for targeting printing plates and measuring dot coverage thereon

A method of combining holograms or phase images of an object is disclosed, where attributes of the data used to record two phase images of overlapping portions of the surface of an object are compared and used to match pixels of the two recordings. A relative tilt angle and direction correction is added, and a third phase image is generated. Phase images of objects which are too large to be imaged in an interferometric imaging system can thus be produced.
