Linear low-density polyethylene polymers used to form covering layers for cables are disclosed. Such polymers exhibit certain molecular weight distributions suitable to form the covering layers for the cable. The polymer can be crosslinked to exhibit suitable properties including retained elongation at break values and hot set values.

An optical waveguide includes a textured light-diffracting layer. The optical waveguide is made from a poly(aliphatic ester)-polycarbonate copolymer having very high flow properties and good impact properties. A method of manufacturing the waveguide by injection molding, a method of incorporating a microprism structure and a method of scattering light by directing light through a light-scattering layer thereby produced on the waveguide are also disclosed.

Disclosed are compositions, glass filled compositions, articles made therefrom, and processes for making articles therefrom. In an embodiment, a composition can comprise: one or more polycarbonates wherein at least one of the polycarbonates is a polyester-polycarbonate having at least one unit derived from sebacic acid and has a biocontent of at least 5 weight % based upon a total weight of the polyester-polycarbonate, determined according ASTM-D6866; a glass content of 10 weight % or greater based upon a total weight of the composition; and an epoxy resin. The composition has a melt volume rate of greater than 10.5 cm/10 minutes at 300&#xb0; C./1.2 kg according to ASTM-D1238-10. A part molded having a 0.8 mm thickness molded from the composition has a gloss value of 89 or higher at 60&#xb0;, according to ASTM-D523.

Glass filled copolymer products for thin wall and high surface gloss articles

A plastic article having a thickness of about 2 mm to about 3.2 mm is disclosed. The article is formed from a thermoplastic composition that includes a first polymer that is a polycarbonate, a second polymer that is a polyphthalatecarbonate, a perfluoroakyl sulfonate salt; and a cyclic siloxane compound. The thermoplastic has a light transmittance at a thickness of 3.2 mm of at least 86% according to ASTM D1003-11E1, a UL94 flammability rating of V0, a notched Izod impact strength at a thickness of 3.2 mm of at least 500 J/m according to ASTM D256-05 with a 2.27 kg weight at a, and a heat deflection temperature at a thickness of 3.2 mm of at least 160&#xb0; C. according to ASTM D648-06 under a load of 0.45 MPa.

High-temperature plastic article

A thermosetting polymer material capable of being used in powder coatings. The thermosetting polymer material includes at least one hydroxyl functional aliphatic polycarbonates that is formulated and crosslinked with isocyanates to yield a thermoset organic coating material. These materials provide improved weatherability as compared to prior art powder coating materials while also being less expensive than prior art materials utilizing fluorinated polymers.

Aliphatic polycarbonates for use in thermosetting powder coatings

Disclosed herein is a thermoplastic composition comprising a combination of: a polysiloxane-polycarbonate copolymer and a poly(aliphatic ester)-polycarbonate copolymer comprising soft block ester units of the formula (8): wherein m is 4 to 18, wherein the thermoplastic composition has a melt volume rate of 14 cc/10 min to 22 cc/10 min at 300&#xb0; C. and under a load of 1.2 Kg and a dwell time of 6 minutes, according to ASTM D1238-04, wherein an article molded from the thermoplastic composition and having a thickness of 3.2 mm has a percent transmittance of greater than 85% according to ASTM D1003-00, and wherein 100% of a set of five test articles each having a thickness of 3.2 mm and molded from the thermoplastic composition exhibit ductile fracture at &#x2212;40&#xb0; C. when measured for notched Izod Impact according to ASTM D256-04. An article comprising the thermoplastic composition is also disclosed.
