A mechanically alloyed composition of matter containing 30-40% chromium, 0-15% cobalt, 0-10% iron, 0.2-1.0% aluminum, 0.3-1.2% titanium, greater than 1-5% tantalum and/or niobium, 0.2-1% yttria, usual processing and trace impurities, and the balance nickel. The addition of tantalum improves the workability characteristics of the alloy. The alloy is particularly useful for molten glass spinners.

Mechanically alloyed nickel-base composition having improved hot

The invention provides a process for production of silver-containing precursor alloys to oxide superconductors, said alloys having reduced amounts of intermetallics. Powders containing metallic elemental components of an oxide superconductor are high energy milled for a predetermined amount of time to increase homogeneity of the mixed metallic elemental components of the oxide superconductor. Silver is then high energy milled into the metallic components. The mixed silver and metallic elemental components of the oxide superconductor are compacted for the silver-containing superconductor precursor. The compacted powder is preferably hot worked at a temperature of at least 50% of the precursor alloy's melting temperature in degrees Kelvin.

Process for forming superconductor precursor

A homogenizaton heat treatment for enhancing crevice and pitting corrosion resistance minimizes the formation of Mu phase in nickel-base alloys of high combined percentages of chromium, e.g., 19 to 23% and molybdenum, e.g., 14 to 17%, particularly together with tungsten. Also described is an advantageous alloy composition containing less than 2.5% iron, low carbon and a titanium to carbon ratio greater than 1 which is particularly adapted to be effectively treated by the homogenization heat treatment.

Corrosion-resistant nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloys

A method for pickling and consolidating water atomized metallic powders to reduce surface oxides. The technique includes introducing the powder into an acid bath--preferably nitric acid and hydrofluoric acid, rinsing the powder, introducing the powder into an alkaline bath, rinsing the powder and then consolidating the powder into a workpiece. Alternatively, the powder can be additionally introduced into a second acid bath and/or placed into a finishing boric acid bath before consolidation.

Method for surface activation of water atomized powders by pickling

A heat treatment method for strengthening cold worked tubes made from nickel-base alloys without an attendant loss in corrosion resistance properties. Especially useful for tubes destined for energy resource recovery areas, oil fields, sour gas wells, etc., the tubes may be heated from 316.degree.-769.degree. C. (600.degree.-1100.degree. F.) for up to an hour.

A method for utilizing a powder metallurgy ('P/M') slurry by employing water atomized metallic powders and subsequently reducing the oxide levels therein to acceptable levels. The slurry comprises a carbon containing binder. The slurry is consolidated and sintered under controlled conditions to reduce the oxide levels.

Production of water atomized powder metallurgy products

A method for consolidating powder utilizing slurry extrusion or rolling techniques. A metallic powder, binder and boron containing activator are mixed together to form a slurry. The slurry is introduced into an active forming apparatus whereupon it is formed into an object of predetermined shape and sintered.
