A gaming system that provides a player symbol set selection feature including a plurality of simultaneously displayed separate player selectable symbol sets for a play of a game. For the play of the game, enables the player to select one of the displayed symbol sets and after the player selection, the gaming system determines and causes each of the symbol sets (including the player selected symbol set and the other non-player selected symbol sets) to display a separate randomly determined outcome for that symbol set for that play of the game. The gaming system provides the player any determined awards for the player selected symbol set and additionally compares any determined awards for the player selected symbol set and any determined awards for the other (non-player selected) symbol sets for that play of the game. Based on that comparison, the gaming system can provide the player one or more comparison awards.

In various embodiments, the gaming system is configured to provide a slot game, each play of which employs a subset of a plurality of symbol generators. If a symbol generator modification event occurs in association with a first play that employs a first subset of the symbol generators, the gaming system removes one of the symbol generators from the first subset and adds another one of the plurality of symbol generators to the first subset to form a second subset, and employs the second subset for a second play. Various embodiments of the present disclosure provide a gaming system and method providing a selection game associated with a plurality of different sets of pickable selections. For a play of the game, the gaming system displays a first set of selections and a second set of selections, and initiates a selection round. If a designated selection of the first set remains unpicked, the gaming system enables the player to pick a selection of the first set. If a designated selection of the second set remains unpicked, the gaming system enables the player to pick a selection of the second set. If the designated ones of the first and second sets of selections have both been picked, the gaming system determines an award based on a total quantity of initiated selection rounds. If not, the gaming system ends the selection round, initiates a subsequent selection round, and repeats the above process.
