A gauge for measuring the geometry of a fluid passage in a workpiece at precise gauge points in the passage. The gauge includes a probe with an internal gas flow passage extending to a calibrated orifice or port in the probe. Pressure developed in the gas passage when the orifice is at each gauge point is detected whereby the geometry of the passage is established.

An apparatus for generating smoke includes a closed chamber having a top cover, and a metal air inlet tube, a metal air outlet tube and a metal suction tube extending through the cover. An electric coiled-wire heating element is positioned transversely in the chamber and connected electrically at each end to the metal air inlet tube and the metal suction tube. A spray dispenser is attached to the top cover and positioned over the heating element and is operably connected to a supply of smoke-producing fluid, the dispenser being configured to spread and drop controlled quantities of the smoke-producing fluid onto the heating element. Separate controls are provided for controlling flow of the fluid onto the heating element for controlling smoke production, and for controlling flow of air for carrying smoke through a delivery line for use. An orifice and also a condenser is positioned at an outlet of the smoke-producing chamber to better distribute and control smoke in the air, and to reduce oil droplets and heat in the smoke-carrying air. Variations are provided to show manual, semi-automatic, and automatic apparatus.

Smoke-producing apparatus for detecting leaks

A tool is provided to remove a snap ring from a shaft of a machine such as a small gas or electric motor. The tool includes two pins that engage the ends of the snap ring and a mechanism for advancing the pins to move the snap ring around the shaft and ultimately off the shaft.

A bowl cutter for enlarging cylinder head valve bowls and the like that includes at least one cutting blade with first and second cutting edges. The bowl cutter further includes a body with at least one cutter mount including a clamp that securely holds the cutting blade at a preselected angular position. The cutting blade is pivotably connected to the body for angular adjustment of the cutting blade, and the clamp securely holds the cutting blade at a selected angular position wherein the first cutting edge is positioned to remove material from the base portion of an associated valve bowl, and the second cutting edge is positioned to remove material from a sidewall portion of an associated valve bowl.

A universal shoe assembly is disclosed for a microfinishing machine having a base and a pair of jaw arms mounted to the base. The universal shoe assembly includes a shoe for applying grinding pressure to a surface of a workpiece, universal mounting means for mounting the shoe to one of the jaw arms of the microfinishing machine, and securing means for releasably securing the mounting means to the jaw arm of the microfinishing machine. Also disclosed is a taper-correcting shoe assembly for a microfinishing machine including a mounting structure adapted for mounting to an arm of a microfinishing machine, a first shoe movably mounted to the mounting structure for applying variable grinding pressure to a first portion of a surface of a workpiece, a second shoe mounted to the mounting structure adjacent the first shoe for applying grinding pressure to a second portion of the surface of the workpiece, and manual extension means, responsive to manual movement, for extending the first shoe outward from the mounting structure in order to correct any taper of the surface of the workpiece.
