The present invention provides a method and system of specifying and enforcing at least one run-time policy for at least one computer process executing on a computer system, where the computer system includes a computer operating system. In an exemplary embodiment, the method and system include (1) relating the policy with an executable file of the process, (2) associating the policy with a running instance of the process, and (3) enforcing the policy on the running instance.

The present invention provides a processor-implemented method and system of updating an operating system of a computer system, where the operating system is subject to a system lockdown that does not allow changes to a list of approved executables of the operating system and that does not allow changes to a base system configuration of the operating system. In an exemplary embodiment, the method and system include, (1) identifying at least one trusted updater process in the operating system and (2) allowing the trusted updater process to make at least one change to the list of approved executables. A technique is provided for improving visual recognition of letters, graphics, etc., in a portion of a displayed image that has been enlarged. An image display system includes an image display component for displaying on a screen an image based on image data, a region indicator component for permitting a region to be enlarged from the image to be selected and identified, a data modification component for modifying the portion of the image data corresponding to an enlarged display region so that the selected image is enlarged and displayed within the enlarged display region on the screen, and a brightness adjusting component for adjusting values instructing brightness of the corresponding image data part such that a contrast of the image within the enlarged display is higher than a contrast of the original image within the enlarged display region.

A method and apparatus for correcting the flicker artifact associated with noninterlaced to interlaced video conversion includes a Set-Interpolative-Threshold comparator function whereby weighted line averaging is used only if the difference in luminance, or other color component, of vertically adjacent pixels in the noninterlaced video exceeds a user set threshold value. When the differential value in luminance, or other color component, is greater than the threshold value, and such line averaging is used, the negative effects of the line averaging, such as blurring and darkening of the resulting video frame, are at least partially corrected by aperture/inverse aperture correction.

A computerized interactive menu-driven video signal processing apparatus and method for selectively converting and processing color video signals from a color film scanner includes and provides a method for using a film scanner, a video color signal processor, a video signal storage device (e.g. high definition video tape recorder) and a computer with an interactive menu-driven operator control interface. The operator interface includes an alphanumeric keypad, a computer 'mouse,' a graphics display and a video monitor. While viewing analytical data (e.g. film masking coefficients, model film dye characteristic curves) on the graphics display and video images on the video monitor, the operator enters data and commands into the computer via the alphanumeric keypad or mouse to control the film scanner, the video color signal processor and the video signal storage device. Thus, the operator can precisely and interactively control every aspect of the video conversion and signal processing, including the scanning of the film, the actual video signal processing, and the storage and retrieval of the selectively processed video.
