In one embodiment the present invention includes a circuit comprising a voltage adjust circuit and an input terminal of an electronic system. The voltage adjust circuit is coupled to receive an input voltage. The input terminal of the electronic system is coupled to receive a supply voltage from an output terminal of the voltage adjust circuit. The voltage adjust circuit makes an adjustment to the supply voltage based on a minimum voltage requirement of the electronic system. Accordingly, the leakage current supplied to the electronic system reduces, thereby saving power.

One embodiment, having a corresponding method, features an integrated circuit comprising: a power supply terminal configured to receive electrical power; a core circuit powered by the electrical power, wherein the core circuit comprises a volatile memory configured to store data; a clock source configured to provide a clock signal at a selected frequency, wherein the selected frequency is one of a plurality of possible frequencies of the clock signal, and a processor configured to operate according to the clock signal; and a security circuit configured to reset the core circuit based on the selected frequency of the to clock signal and a voltage of the power supply terminal, wherein resetting the core circuit clears the data from the volatile memory.

Clock generation circuitry is arranged in stages so as to convert a slow slew rate input signal into a high slew rate clock signal in a low power environment. Each stage includes a capacitor and an inverter, both fed by respective current mirrors. The capacitor is trickle-charged through its current mirror, and charge of the capacitor is dumped onto an output of the stage at a controlled timing. Two or more such stages may be provided, so as to improve the slew rate of both of the leading and trailing edges of the clock signal, and also so as to provide a convenient source of timing for dumping charge of each capacitor. Each stage might also include a diode switchably connected across the capacitor, so as to discharge the capacitor at appropriate timings, to reduce interference on succeeding stages that might otherwise be caused by residual charge on the capacitor.
