Metal complexes having high bulk density and a process for the production of the same without the generation of heavy metal-contaminated effluents are disclosed. Solid complexes of EDTANaFe and EDTAKFe having high bulk densities are formed by reaction with mixed metal solutions containing low chromium levels, followed by total drying of the resulting mixture in the same processing equipment without the prior separation of the sulfate salts formed. The amounts of the various metals in any given formulation can be preselected.

Process for the preparation of solid iron (III) complexes

A process for the preparation of isophorone nitrile utilizing solutions of lithium hydroxide or lithium cyanide, solid LiOH or solid LiOH.cndot.H.sub.2 O as a catalyst. The reaction is carried out under precisely controlled temperature conditions and cyanide feed rate profiles to maintain a reasonably constant concentration of non-reacted cyanide, thereby minimizing the formation of undesirable diisophorone, its nitrile derivative(s) and HCN polymers. A polyacidic acid can be used to acidify the batch, followed by filtration to remove the precipitated lithium salt of the acid, and vacuum distillation to remove liberated HCN and excess isophorone. The resulting isophorone nitrile is obtained in high yield and with low impurity content.

Process for the preparation of 3-cyano-3,5,5-trimethylcyclohexanone

N-methyliminodiacetic acid is separated from mixtures of N-methyliminodiacetic acid and sodium sulfate formed by acidification of solutions of its disodium salt with sulfuric acid. Thus the disodium salt is acidified with sulfuric acid to a ph of about 2 and concentrated by evaporating water so as to crystallize sodium sulfate. The sodium sulfate is separated, and the resulting mother liquor is cooled to precipitate N-methyliminodiacetic acid, which is then separated.

A process of preparing iron chelates of amino and hydroxy carboxylic acids, comprising reacting an oxide of iron with an amino or hydroxy carboxylic acid and a base in the presence of ferrous ion or metallic iron as a catalyst. Process for the preparation of salts of iron amino and hydroxy

A process for producing glycinonitrile under substantially adiabatic reaction conditions by reacting in a tubular reactor hydrogen cyanide, formaldehyde and ammonia. The excess ammonia is flashed off and the remaining solution volatiles are evaporated and condensed to product. The resulting glycinonitrile can be saponified to the alkali metal glycinate, from which glycine can be prepared.

Adiabatic process for the preparation of glycinonitrile

A process for preparing isophorone nitrile is disclosed, whereby isophorone is reacted with hydrogen cyanide in the presence of a quaternary ammonium catalyst. Remaining catalyst is removed by thermal destruction and nitrogen sparging. Residual cyanide is removed by acidification and nitrogen sparging.

The separation and recovery of iminodiacetic acid and sodium sulfate decahydrate from sodium sulfate solutions such as the liquor generated in the production of iminodiacetic acids are disclosed. The separation is accomplished by adjusting the temperature of the sodium sulfate solutions to crystallize the iminodiacetic acid and sodium sulfate decahydrate. Nitrilotriacetic acid optionally can be isolated prior to the crystallization of the IDA and sodium sulfate decahydrate.
