A gate valve for use in oil field applications and including a seat seal assembly. The seat seal assembly includes primary, secondary, and tertiary seals for sealing the space between the seat rings and the valve body. The provision of multiple seals in the seat seal assembly provides redundancy that allows for maintenance of the seal between the components even if one or two of the individual seals fail.

Multi-valve seat seal assembly for a gate valve

A gate valve for use in oil field applications and including a stem seal assembly and a seat seal assembly. Each of the stem and seat seal assemblies accommodate independent primary, secondary, and tertiary seals for sealing the space between the stem and the bonnet, or the seat ring and the valve body, respectively. The provision of multiple seals in each assembly provides redundancy that allows for maintenance of the seal between the components even if one or two of the individual seals fail.

Gate valve arrangement including multi-valve stem and seat assemblies

A gate valve has a body, the body having a cavity and a flow passage intersecting the cavity. A seat fabricated from a ceramic and/or hardfacing alloy matrix composite substrate is mounted to the body at the intersection of the flow passage and the cavity. A gate fabricated from a ceramic and/or hardfacing alloy matrix composite substrate is installed at the cavity and has an engaging face that slidingly engages the seat while the gate is being moved between open and closed positions. The engaging faces of the gate and seats are coated with a low-friction material to facilitate sliding. The ceramic and/or hardfacing alloy matrix composite substrate construction of the gate and seats with low friction engaging surfaces enhances the gate valve's bearing stress capacity.

A gate valve assembly having metallic valve seats that are axially resilient and maintain a static sealing interface between the valve seat and a body pocket and a sliding dynamic sealing interface between the valve seat and a gate in the valve assembly. The valve seats are annular members having slots formed radially through the valve seats from the inner and outer circumferences. Sleeves may be provided that are coaxial to the valve seats; the sleeves may be on the inner surface of the valve seats, outer surface of the valve seats, or both. Shims may optionally be set in the slots.

Gate valve assembly with an axially flexible seat

This invention provides a motor drive assembly for rotatably positioning and locking a drive shaft suitable for use with a measurement-while-drilling (MWD) downhole assembly for use in drilling boreholes which utilizes gyroscopes, magnetometers and accelerometers for determining the borehole inclination and azimuth during the drilling of the borehole. The motor drive assembly can rotate the gyroscope and other sensors on the tool to one of a plurality of preselected positions and optionally lock the sensors.

This invention provides a measurement-while-drilling (MWD) downhole assembly for use in drilling boreholes which utilizes gyroscopes, magnetometers and accelerometers for determining the borehole inclination and azimuth during the drilling of the borehole. The downhole assembly includes at least one gyroscope that is rotatably mounted in a tool housing to provide signals relating to the earth's rotation. A device in the tool can rotate the gyroscope and other sensors on the tool to one of a plurality of preselected positions and optionally lock the sensors. A processor in the tool combines measurements from the sensors taken at a plurality of positions at the same depth to determine the systematic bias in the sensors before further processing. Accelerometers in the MWD tool provide gravity measurements from which the toolface and inclination are determined.

Measurement-while-drilling assembly using gyroscopic devices and methods of bias removal

This invention provides a measurement-while-drilling (MWD) downhole assembly for use in drilling boreholes which utilizes gyroscopes, magnetometers and accelerometers for determining the borehole inclination and azimuth during the drilling of the borehole. The downhole assembly includes at least one gyroscope that is rotatably mounted in a tool housing to provide signals relating to the earth's rotation. A device in the tool can rotate the gyroscope and other sensors on the tool at any desired degree. A processor in the tool combines measurements from the sensors taken at a plurality of positions at the same depth to determine the systematic bias in the sensors before further processing. Accelerometers in the MWD tool provide gravity measurements from which the toolface and inclination are determined. The unbiased gyroscopic measurements are used in conjunction with the tool face and inclination measurements to determine the azimuth and tool face with respect to true north. Three axially spaced apart magnetometers may be used to correct for local magnetic disturbances. Additionally, when measurements are made with magnetic, accelerometer and gyroscopic measurements along three different axes, the unbiased measurements may be combined to provide an improved determination of the tool orientation.
