A method for detecting and managing a futile neighbor state loop during link state routing is disclosed. The method can include reading a threshold parameter for link state routing, wherein the threshold parameter indicates a number of routing attempts, and performing link state routing to a node via a primary interface. The method can further include detecting a futile neighbor state loop during link state routing to the node via the primary interface by detecting a number of routing attempts that has reached the threshold parameter and detecting an available backup interface to the node. The method can further include suspending the primary interface to the node and switching routing to the backup interface.

Futile neighbor state loop prevention in high availability networks

Methods, systems, and computer program products for migrating configuration data from an existing program to a replacement program, in response, for example, to a command by an external agent. In preferred embodiments, an existing program is modified according to the invention to add functionality to obtain pertinent configuration data from such sources available to the existing program as its internal tables, configuration files, and run-time commands, and then to write a configuration file containing configuration data formatted for use by the replacement program. The program's internal tables may often contain configuration data which is not always available to the replacement program e.g. command line parameters, data provided through receipt of messages from other programs, etc. The invention advantageously makes voluminous formatted configuration data available to the replacement program in order to expeditiously provide a basis for its initial operation after installation.

Efficient configuration data migration technique

The present invention utilizes Virtual Internet Protocol Addressing (VIPA) to enable a host computer to efficiently route TCP/IP traffic across multiple physical links. This is accomplished by associating different applications or application sets with different virtual IP addresses. The virtual IP addresses may be associated with different physical adapters. Since many applications send similar data repeatedly, categorizing application sets and associating them with different physical adapters allows high volume applications to be associated with one adapter while lower volume, interactive data is associated with another adapter.

Session traffic splitting using virtual internet protocol addresses

A method of allowing TCP/IP resources to be rerouted to another active link connected to the same resources in a timely manner. This method comprises sending a Routing Information Protocol (RIP) update to the router by sending information to the other resource specifying a metric that indicates that the desired network is unreachable; this RIP update is sent with the IP source address set as if it had been transmitted across the failed link. This causes the route to be updated to indicate that the failing link is no longer active and indicate an alternate route as the preferred means of reaching the resource.
