A swept light source of the present invention keeps a coherence length of an output beam long over an entire sweep wavelength range. A gain of a gain medium is changed with time in response to a wavelength sweep and the coherence length is kept maximum. The gain of the gain medium is kept close to a lasing threshold and an unsaturated gain range of the gain medium is narrowed over the entire sweep wavelength range. An SOA current waveform data acquiring method of driving while keeping the coherence length long, a novel coherence length measuring method, and an optical deflector suitable for the swept light source are also disclosed.

Provided is a swept light source including one end surface coupled to a wavelength filter constituted of a diffraction grating and an end mirror via a light deflector and another end surface including a gain medium facing an output coupling mirror and which configures a laser cavity between the end mirror and the output coupling mirror, wherein a drive voltage having an AC voltage on which a DC bias voltage is superimposed is output from a control voltage source of the light deflector to an electrode pair of an electro-optic crystal, light is radiated from a light emitter to the electro-optic crystal, and incident light from the gain medium incident along an optical axis perpendicular to a direction of an electric field formed by the control voltage is deflected in a direction parallel to the electric field, so that wavelength sweeping is performed.

Swept light source and method for controlling the same

An end face observation device () of this invention includes a first lens () including a missing portion () extending through in an optical axis direction, a light source () configured to generate light that irradiates an end face (A) of an observation target via the first lens, and an image capturing element () configured to receive an image of the end face of the observation target via the first lens. This can implement an end face observation device that integrates a structure configured to operate the end face of the observation target with an observation device configured to observe the end face by inserting the structure configured to operate the end face of the observation target into the missing portion of the first lens.

An optical connector cleaning tool includes a cylindrical connecting portion to which an optical connector is connected, a cleaning unit configured to guide a cleaning thread to a coupling end face of an optical connector plug, and an optical unit having an optical path reaching the optical connector plug. The optical unit includes a lens arranged in a position facing the coupling end face to form one end portion of an optical system, and having a missing portion extending in an optical-axis direction, and an image sensor positioned at the other end of the optical system. The cleaning unit includes a rod-like cleaning tip having a thread passage through which the cleaning thread passes. An optical input/output device includes a phase modulator element and an optical element. The phase modulator element includes a plurality of pixels arranged in a matrix and is configured to change an optical phase of signal light by applying a driving signal corresponding to a phase pattern. The optical element is configured to convert a direction of exit of the signal light so as to irradiate each pixel with the signal light from the input port. A pattern generator unit includes superimposing means for superimposing a periodic phase pattern having a predetermined period in at least one direction in a plane of the phase modulator element, and means for controlling an amplitude of the periodic phase pattern. The signal light is diffracted to a position according to the period of the superimposed periodic phase pattern, so that light intensity of the signal light is dispersed.

Optical input/output device

An optical fiber cross connection apparatus is provided for connecting and disconnecting input optical fibers to desired output optical fibers, each of the input optical fibers being equipped with a plug on a tip thereof. The optical fiber cross connection apparatus comprises an arrangement board installed approximately vertically, which has a plurality of alignment holes for releasably holding the plugs and for passing the input optical fibers therethrough, a connection board installed approximately vertically, on which a plurality of connection adapters are positioned to which the output optical fibers are connected and to which the plugs of the input optical fibers are connectable, a handling mechanism for drawing the input optical fibers from the arrangement board so that the input optical fibers are drawn through the alignment holes and for connecting the plugs thereof to desired connection adapters, a roll-up mechanism for paying out the input optical fibers when the fibers are drawn through the alignment holes by the handling mechanism, and traveling mechanisms for moving the handling mechanism and the roll-up mechanism to a desired position with respect to the connection board and the arrangement board.
