Various aspects include approaches for proximity-based control in audio devices. In particular implementations, an audio system includes: a set of audio devices, each including: an electrode for detecting an electrical waveform, wherein the electrode comprises at least one of a capacitive electrode or an inductive electrode; and a controller coupled to the electrode, where the controller in a first one of the audio devices is configured to instruct the electrode in the first audio device to transmit an electrical waveform that is detectable by the electrode in a second one of the audio devices for indicating physical proximity of the first audio device to the second audio device, and in response to detecting the electrical waveform, the controller in the second audio device initiates a proximity-based action.

Various aspects include wearable audio devices. In some particular implementations, a wearable audio device includes: an acoustic transducer having a sound-radiating surface for providing an audio output; a controller coupled with the acoustic transducer; a printed circuit board (PCB) coupled with the controller; and a capacitive touch interface coupled with the PCB, the capacitive touch interface having: a contact surface for receiving a touch command; and a set of at least two electrodes underlying the contact surface for detecting the touch command at the contact surface, where neighboring electrodes in the set share a border having an arcuate profile across the contact surface or a piecewise profile approximating a non-linear path across the contact surface.

Wearable audio device with capacitive touch interface

A wireless audio device, charging system, and method of charging a battery. The wireless audio device includes a communication module configured to enable the wireless audio device to communicate wirelessly and a battery. A charging interface is configured to establish a power transfer connection to the battery from a power source. A memory is configured to store paired history data indicating that the wireless audio device has been paired to an audio source upon the audio device being wirelessly paired. A controller is configured to detect the power transfer connection, determine a charge level of the battery, check the memory for the paired history data, and generate a control signal for selectively disabling the power transfer connection to prevent the charge level from exceeding a preset threshold unless the memory contains the paired history data.

Systems and methods for charging wireless audio devices

A first audio device exchanges first control signals with a source device and thereby receives first audio signals from the source device. A second audio device exchanges second control signals with the first audio device including information the second audio device needs to receive the first audio signals from the source device. The first control signals include communications using Bluetooth BR/EDR protocols and establish a first Bluetooth link for audio streaming from the source device to the first audio device. The second control signals include communications using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) protocols and transfer to the second audio device parameters of the first Bluetooth link, such that the second audio device can receive and decode an audio stream transmitted from the source device to the first audio device over the first Bluetooth link.

Wireless low-latency audio content sharing

A demonstration system includes a demonstration processor including a wired audio output, a data interface, and an anchor point. A portable audio device includes a wireless interface for receiving first audio signals, a wired audio input for receiving second audio signals, a mixing circuit outputting third audio signals including audio content from both the first and second audio signals, an output audio transducer for receiving the third audio signals from the mixing circuit and outputting them as audible signals, a user interface, a data interface, and a programmable processor in communication with the user interface and the data interface. A cable bundle includes a security cable for connection between the anchor point and the portable audio device thereby preventing theft of the portable audio device, and electrical conductors connecting the wired audio output of the demonstration processor to the wired audio input of the portable audio device.

A reassignment of a particular task routine among the personal portable devices may he forestalled as a result of it being impermissible to transmit a copy of a task routine associated with a task portion and/or a piece of data associated with that task routine from one of the personal portable devices to another. A task portion reassigned between two personal portable devices may be associated with communications between personal portable devices and its reassignment may result in a changing in topological positions of the two personal portable devices within the topology of the wireless network.

Personal wireless network power-based task distribution

Where a plurality of personal portable devices communicating with each other through a personal wireless network are to cooperate to perform a task made up of a plurality of task portions, the task portions are automatically distributed among the personal portable devices at least partially in response to comparisons between the capabilities required to perform each task portion and the capabilities of each of the personal portable devices. In making such comparisons, the capabilities of each of the personal portable devices that are actually available for the performance of one or more of the task portions at the time such comparisons are made may be taken into account, and further, such comparisons may be repeated as the capabilities of each of the personal portable devices that are actually available change over time.
