A liquid crystal display panel is provided and includes a pair of substrates arranged face to face so as to sandwich a liquid crystal layer, a lower electrode formed on a lower substrate, an upper electrode formed on the lower substrate through an insulating layer, in which plural slits are formed in each sub-pixel, wherein each of the plural slits is formed as an aperture in which both ends thereof in the longitudinal direction are closed, and an alignment film formed so as to cover a surface of the upper electrode and the insulating layer. The plural slits have different widths at both ends of slits in a longitudinal direction, and a rubbing direction of the alignment film is a direction crossing longitudinal edges of each of the slits.

A liquid crystal display device including a plurality of sub pixel regions is provided. The device includes first and second substrates with a liquid crystal layer interposed therebetween; a first electrode formed on the liquid crystal layer side of the first substrate; a second electrode formed nearer the liquid crystal layer side than the first electrode with an insulating film interposed therebetween and having a plurality of linear portions in a region overlapping with the first electrode in plan view, a third electrode having a plurality of linear portions formed on the liquid crystal layer side of the second substrate, the linear portions of the third electrode not overlapping with the linear portions of the second electrode in plan view and have portions formed along the linear portions of the second electrode, and wherein the electric fields are generated between the second electrode and the third electrode and between the second electrode and the first electrode.

Provided is a liquid crystal display device including: first and second substrates with a liquid crystal layer interposed therebetween; a first electrode formed on the liquid crystal layer side of the first substrate and having linear portions; a second electrode having linear portions formed along the linear portions of the first electrode and adjacent to the linear portions of the first electrode at a gap in plan view; and a third electrode formed on the liquid crystal layer side of the second substrate and having linear portions overlapping with the linear portions of the second electrode in plan view, wherein electric fields having different directions are generated between the first electrode and the second electrode and between the first electrode and the third electrode.

A liquid crystal display panel is provides and includes a pair of substrates arranged face to face so as to sandwich a liquid crystal layer. The liquid crystal device includes on one of the pair of substrates: a lower electrode; an upper electrode formed on a surface of the lower substrate through an insulating layer, in which plural slits are formed in each sub-pixel; and an alignment film formed so as to cover a surface of the upper electrode and the insulating layer. A liquid crystal display includes: a liquid crystal layer is interposed between a first substrate and a second substrate; a first electrode having a linear portion formed in the first substrate facing the liquid crystal layer; a second electrode having a linear portion formed adjacent to the first electrode; an insulating film disposed on the first electrode and the second electrode; a third electrode disposed on the insulting film correspond to the linear portion of the first electrode; and a fourth electrode disposed on the insulting film correspond to the linear portion of the second electrode. In the liquid crystal display, a voltage different from those of the second electrode and the third electrode is applied to the first electrode, and the first electrode and the second electrode are partially notched in the width direction of the linear portion in at least one side edge of the linear portion.

Provided is a lateral electric field mode liquid crystal device including: a first substrate; a second substrate; a liquid crystal layer and pixel electrodes and common electrodes. A lateral electric field mode liquid crystal device drives the liquid crystal layer by an electric field generated between the pixel electrodes and the common electrodes, a light shielding layer is formed on a surface of the second substrate disposed close to the liquid crystal layer. A coloring layer is also formed so as to overlap with the pixel electrodes. An overcoat layer protects the coloring layer, and an alignment film is formed. An electrostatic shielding layer is formed of a transparent conductive material on a surface of the overcoat layer.

Liquid crystal device, electronic apparatus, and method of manufacturing liquid crystal device

A liquid crystal device includes first and second substrates which are arranged so as to face each other with a liquid crystal layer interposed therebetween, and first and second electrodes which are provided on the first substrate facing the liquid crystal layer. The liquid crystal layer is driven by electric fields generated between the first and second electrodes. A reflective display region for reflective display and a transmissive display region for transmissive display are provided in each of a plurality of subpixel regions. A liquid-crystal-layer-thickness-adjusting layer is provided in at least the reflective display region so as to vary the thickness of the liquid crystal layer in the subpixel region. A gap between the first and second electrodes in a main direction of an electric field in the transmissive display region is narrower than a gap between the first and second electrodes in a main direction of an electric field in the reflective display region.
