A color image forming apparatus that can detachably receive a plurality of process units into associated ones of a plurality of color image forming stations. Each of such detachable process units effects imaging in one of a plurality of different colors. The units are substantially identical in structure, configuration, and dimension, but differ with respect to indexing elements which allow each unit to be set only at its proper color image forming station in the image forming apparatus.

An actuating device comprises a three-dimensionally movable member, a support member for supporting the movable member and an induction unit for imparting an induction force to at least one of the movable member and the support member to three-dimensionally move the movable member relative to the support member.

This invention provides a cleaning device for an image bearing member which is able to effect a good cleaning without scattering removed developer. The device includes an elastic cleaning blade contacting the image bearing member, hood means covering the vicinity of the portion where the blade contacts the surface of the image bearing member, suction means and guiding means for guiding an air flow to strike against said blade contacting portion.
