A hitch assembly having a ball stud assembly and a sleeve with an open end dimensioned to receive the ball stud assembly. The ball stud assembly including a ball portion and a locking assembly. The ball stud assembly is movable between an extended position in which the ball portion extends out of the sleeve and a retracted position in which the ball portion is fully received within the sleeve. The locking assembly is configured to selectively lock the ball stud assembly with respect to the sleeve in either the extended position or the retracted position.

Dual opening sliding console for use with a vehicle

A combination for a hinge assembly having first and second hinged leafs movable about a common axis. The combination has a first hinge leaf with an integral plastic camming surface positioned eccentrically about the common axis, a second hinged leaf with an integral plastic cam follower surface positioned about the common axis to engage the camming surface with increasing friction as the camming surface is cammed thereagainst, and structures for increasing the frictional engagement between the camming surface and cam follower surface in response to weight added to either of the hinged leafs to control the rate at which the leafs rotate relative to each other.

Controlled rate hinge responsive to weight

A console is provided for use with an automotive vehicle. The console can be removed from or repositioned within a vehicle interior using an existing seating arrangement or seat fastening system. The console includes a variety of features, including use as a cooler or a seat separate from the vehicle. The console can be used in several positions within the vehicle.

A glove box assembly (10) for a vehicle includes left and right side braces (50, 52) each having multiple sections (54, 64, 78). The first section (54) is fastened to the vehicle frame (24) and the second section (64) is connected to the first section and slidably movable relative to the first section between a retracted position at which the second section nests in the first section an extended position at which the second section extends from the first section. The third section (78) is connected to the second section (64) and slidably movable relative to the second section between a retracted position at which the third section nests in the second section an extended position at which the third section extends from the second section. A bin (28) is removably mounted between the left and right side braces (50, 52). The second and third sections (64, 78) of the braces (64, 78) are extended and retracted to controllably extend and retract the bin (28).

Glove box for a vehicle

A dual open console for use with a vehicle. The console includes a lock assembly that allows opening of only one side of the console at a time. The lock assembly includes a pivot bar engaging locks on both sides of the lid of the console. The pivot bar operates to ensure that the lock on one side of the lid remains engaged when the lock on the other side is released.

Dual opening console

An apparatus for cooling electrical components contained inside an enclosed housing, which is positioned proximate to a dashboard of a vehicle, includes an inlet pipe which receives a forced air flow and an outlet pipe which expels air from the enclosed housing. The inlet pipe receives the forced air flow either from a fan or from an air intake mechanism which supplies filtered air to an intake manifold of the vehicle engine. The air intake mechanism also maintains the temperature of the vehicle battery at a predetermined temperature by use of heated air from the engine exhaust manifold.

Apparatus for cooling a card cage

An arrangement for heating and cooling a vehicle battery includes a thermal chamber shaped to hold the vehicle battery. The thermal chamber includes a floor and three walls and is positioned against a fender of the vehicle so that the fender forms a fourth wall of the chamber. The thermal chamber includes an inlet opening for receiving air and an outlet opening for expelling air. The inlet opening receives air from a first inlet duct which transports ambient air from outside of the engine compartment, and from a second inlet duct which transports air from an exhaust manifold of the engine. A temperature controlled damper directs air from either the first inlet duct or the second inlet duct into the inlet opening. An outlet duct transports air expelled through the outlet opening into the engine intake manifold. A filter positioned in the thermal chamber filters the air expelled through the outlet duct. The thermal chamber also includes heating elements which may be energized by household current to heat the thermal chamber.

Battery thermal chamber

A two-piece switch is mounted on two members which slidably move in a fixed relation to each other. One portion of the switch, mounted to the stationary member, has a contact recessed within for connecting to a power source. The first portion has flexible insulators over the contact. The second portion, mounted to the slidable member, has a retractable contact and an independently retractable insulator. When the switch portions are brought together as the members are moved, the flexible insulators are deformed to expose a portion of the contact by the retractable insulator. The contacts are then electrically connected.

Two piece switch assembly for members that move relative to one another

A lamp switch and connector means assembly comprising an integral housing which is mountable to the interior of a compartment for illuminating the compartment. The switch is operable by means of a biased plunger, for example, in response to the opening and closing of a compartment lid. Fixed to the plunger is an electrical bridging means which simultaneously and immediately engages stationary, nonbiased electrical contacts when the plunger is biased toward an extended position.
