Systems and methods are disclosed that perform dynamic database schema modification. A database system may receive a request to change a schema. In response to receiving the request to perform the dynamic schema modification, the database system may complete pending transactions and begin modifying the database schema. Any requests to access the database received prior to completion of the modification may be paused, thereby allowing the database to remain online and continue receiving requests while the modification is in progress. After completion of the modification, the paused requests may be resumed.

Dynamic modification of database schema

A data management system is provided with a database which has internal tanks for storing large object data according to the size of the data involved. An analysis method and system is provided which will search out and calculate the space of each of the tank files involved and will report on how the space of each tank file is being used in terms of existing large objects, in terms of unused and available space, and in terms of deleted large object spaces.

Method for analyzing status of specialized tank files which store and handle large objects

An Enterprise Server Data Management System provides for the handling of large data objects (LOB) according to the data size required for the large object. Methods are provided to find a particular object that is stored or to delete such an object. But particularly the method arranges for data storage of Large Objects in a structured database, depending on the number of kilobytes forming the Large Object (LOB).

System and method to manipulate large objects on enterprise server data management system

A specialized file organization has data files organized in named blocks of data files and index files organized in a tree structure of hierarchical nodes. A sequential method is provided for analyzing the current utilization of the blocks of data files and the index file structure of the index files to determine whether the User should restructure the files.
