The secondary BOP is connectable to a subsea wellhead such that the secondary BOP is positioned between the primary BOP and the subsea well-head, in which the secondary BOP comprises a shear ram BOP.

Blowout preventer shut-in assembly of last resort

An asymmetrical ram button is provided. In one embodiment, a system includes a blowout preventer including such a button. Particularly, the blowout preventer may include an actuation assembly having the asymmetric ram button attached to a connecting rod coupled to a piston. The asymmetric body of the button can engage an internal shoulder of the ram such that a retraction force on the actuation assembly causes the asymmetrical ram button to load against the internal shoulder. Additional systems, devices, and methods are also disclosed.

A ram block includes an upper ram arm, a lower ram arm, a packer channel, and a packer disposed at least partially within the packer channel. The packer includes a skeletal member that is configured to couple to the upper ram arm and the lower ram arm to oppose vertical separation of the ram arms.

A system for drilling and/or producing a subsea wellbore comprises a primary BOP comprising a primary ram BOP. In addition, the system comprises a secondary BOP releasably connected to the primary BOP, the secondary BOP comprising a secondary ram BOP. The primary rain BOP is actuatable by a first control signal. The secondary ram BOP is actuatable by a second control signal. The secondary rain BOP is not actuatable by the first control signal.

A ram-type blowout preventer including an operating piston assembly isolated from wellbore pressure effects is provided. In one embodiment, a blowout preventer includes piston coupled to a ram by a connecting rod, and the connecting rod is inserted into a recess in the ram. A pressure-isolating seal may be provided in the recess between the connecting rod and the ram to isolate the end of the connecting rod within the recess from wellbore pressure in the blowout preventer.
