A tunable colorimetric sensor/optical filter is based on a lithography-free, asymmetric Fabry-Perot cavity. The sensor has a thin-film structure formed by a lossy, porous nanoplasmonic top film deposited on an actively tunable spacer middle layer, and a reflective base layer (either a metal or semiconductor). The structure is fabricated using wafer-scale PVD processes, and the middle layer responds to the presence of a stimulus in the local environment, by expanding in thickness resulting in a shift in resonance wavelength and thus an obvious change in color of the sensor, which color change is detectable by the naked-eye. Such layered geometries exhibit vibrant, macroscopic structural coloration owing to the broadband optical absorption of the top film, enabling the change in spacer thickness to be transduced visually, circumventing the need for sophisticated optical equipment for signal readout to observe the presence of the environmental stimulus.

Methods, systems and apparatus for identifying modified images based on seed images that are known to be modified images. In an aspect, a method includes accessing data identifying a set of first seed images; for each first seed image, determining a respective first set of similar images from images in an image corpus, each similar image having a visual similarity score that is a measure of visual similarity of the similar image to the first seed image based on the image content of the similar image and the first seed image that satisfies a first seed image similarity threshold; and for each similar image in each respective first set of similar images, attributing to the similar image signal data of each first seed image for which the similar image has a respective visual similarity score satisfying the first seed image similarity threshold.

Propagating image signals to images

Methods, systems and apparatus for identifying modified images based on visual dissimilarity to a first image. In an aspect, a method includes determining, for each of a first image and a second image, a respective set of local image feature descriptions; determining one or more unmatched regions of the images that include unmatched image features and that correspond to one or more same respective regions in both the first image and the second image; determining, for each of the one or more unmatched regions of the images, a modification measure based on the image data corresponding to the unmatched region in the first image and the image data corresponding to the unmatched region in the second image; and determining that the second image is a modification of the first image when one of the modification measures meets a modification measure threshold.

Detecting modified images

A classifier training system trains unified classifiers for categorizing videos representing different categories of a category graph. The unified classifiers unify the outputs of a number of separate initial classifiers trained from disparate subsets of a training set of media items. The training process takes into account the relationships that exist between the various categories of the category graph by relating scores associated with related categories, thus enhancing the accuracy of the unified classifiers.

Multiple-instance-learning-based video classification

An embodiment described herein provides a technique to determine a focus point of a lense. Light is directed from a light source through the lense and onto a target surface. The light source and target surface may be positioned on opposite sides of the lense. The target surface may correspond to the position of where a primary light source for the particular application is to be located. A reflection passing through the lense from the reflective target surface may be located. A determination is then made as to whether the position where the reflection was located also could also corresponds to a focus point for the lense, if the primary light source was to be located at or near the target surface.
