A modular apparatus for active heat exchange involving continuous atomization of chilled or heated fluid droplets, droplets projection, and formation of fluid film on a large surface for reciprocal two way heat transfer with circulating air. A closed, pleated, corrugated, thin-wall, heat conductive chamber () provides the large surface for formation of fluid film and separation between fluid and air offering short and rapid heat conductive path between fluid and air. An axial blower () integrated with the heat exchanger module provides re-circulation of air where the heat exchanger module () is situated. The modular heat exchanger () or multiple of which is integrated with other components such as a refrigeration unit (), a heating element (), and a central fluid reservoir () in which fluid is pre-chilled or preheated in the application of air conditioning and heating. The fluid is conveyed by small bore tubes to individual modules by a pump () then returns to the central reservoir () for re-chill or reheat in a close loop fluid flow configuration. A stepping motor () controlled valve (B) regulated amount of fluid is processed by the heat exchanger.

Active fluid and air heat exchanger and method

The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for controlled droplet atomization and controlled projection of atomization droplets. More particularly, the present invention is a spray apparatus that produces uniform sized atomized droplets controllable from fog size to larger for spraying fungicides, bactericides, pesticides, insecticides, plant nutrients and other materials applied to crop, ground, and foliage for agricultural and horticultural benefaction. The apparatus generates laminar airflow in a vortex or cyclone pattern functioning to project and distribute spray droplets evenly and more completely on the sprayed surfaces. The resulting vortex or cyclone spray and airflow serves to lift, turn, and flutter plant leaves, exposing all sides to be coated with spray droplets.

The pressure difference across a pneumotach restriction is sampled with a gas chopper connected across a pressure difference detecting transducer. The gas chopper alternates the pressures backward and forward in application to the transducer so that the latter develops an AC sampling signal, the strength of which is related to flow. This AC signal is sampled in synchronism over intervals having a duration related to the power line frequency to develop an integrated value of the pressure difference free of drift caused by power line interference. The resultant signal is smoothed and summed in alternating response at double the gas chopper sampling rate to give a smooth output which is then multiplied by a linearizing circuit to obtain a flow signal which is proportional to the pressure difference. Specific gas flow structures and electronic sampling circuitry are disclosed.

Gas flow measuring system

Gas analyzing system using sonic wave shift over tubular gas column. Reference gas passed through column calibrates system to zero reference level. Sample gas having unknown amount of known gas component causes shift of wavelength distance in column. Phase comparator looks at shifted signal over .+-.90.degree. of phase shift. Integrator responds to comparator output to give dc output signal proportional to phase shift. Compensating circuits in final amplifier estimate probable final value based on rate of change of initial comparator output and use same to drive output meter.
